Will Atheism ever be regarded in the same way that Atheists currently regard Christianity?

To understand this question you must think with the perspective of early christians, to them, pagans were old fashioned traditionalists that believed in something ridiculous in a similar way to how many Atheists feel today towards Christians. So with history and logic applied, surely this attitude will one day be held towards Atheism itself?

Well only in the sense that Atheism at some point will be the majority position on the question of religion. Though no i do not think its going to evolve into some dogmatic form.

Will 'not running' ever be regarded as a sport by International Olympic Committee as it regards athletics today?

No it will not. Atheism is here to stay and that ideology will only grow as time progresses.

People are already leaving the churches in droves!

I dig it!

Listen: Atheism will one day be the majority and prevailing school of thought on the planet.

Belief in gods or prayer will be left to the benighted souls who are bereft of any scientific knowledge. Religion will one day be as credible as superstition. Belief that, say, some Hebrew-invented sky god named Yahweh really did make the walls of Jericho crumble will hold as much water as belief that Zeus rains down thunderbolts from Mount Olympus.

(Indeed: I give Greek Mythology as much credence as the Bible...which is simply Hebrew Mythology.)

We have already--through my field of Evolutionary Psychology--discovered why so may folks have a need to believe in gods. It is simply an undesirable and now-useless if not wholly detrimental by-product of our evolved homo sapien brains. And of that organ's particular software, which we refer to as the mind.

(without getting too technical here, it has to do with our obsession in seeking causes and patterns in our worlds)

We can and have induced "god experiences" in people's brains, by merely stimulating the correct area of it (the amygdala) with neuro-electrical stimulation.

We call this Nuero-Theology. I am going to cover it in my Dissertation, as a matter of fact.

Easy peasy....Japanesey!

LOL

An article I contributed to. I wrote about 30% of this............

But in about two thousand years time, do you think it possible that students and intellectuals will be writing dissertations on how being an atheist is caused by some form of brain function? And that there is another belief that is better in line with science and logic. (Or will be after atheism has become the dominant belief similar to abrahamic religions)

Because atheism isn't itself an actual form of behavior or positive belief system, I find it hard to believe that "atheism" as a blanket term would or could be categorized as such.

WOW SlapShot you are very intelligent. You are right about atheist one day being the majority. Also due to atheism many Christians will leave the faith. I just have two questions for you. In the Bible it prophesied that one day unbelievers will ban all religions practices and rule the earth. Could someone possibly with there organ's particular software predict the future? Or was this along with the other prophecies that have come to pass just a lucky guess?

For as long as there are people alive there will be two sides to the religion vs atheism debate and I don't expect either side to ever fully give in. No doubt some already view atheists the way early Christians were viewed. That neither validates nor invalidates either perspective, however.

Atheism isn't a belief: it is a lack of belief. People will not scoff at what they (the atheists) believe. Instead, however, they may (as, indeed, many today do) scoff at the lack of belief held by the atheist. The joke, however, is on the theist, for their positions are indefensible to logic and reason; the religion of the theist is, for the vast majority of theists, based upon corrupted, politically anthologized myths which, had they been lost to the hand of time, most assuredly would not be missed, instead being replaced by a different creed.

But what if this new 'creed' just deteriorated into the same state most theisms are in now? What if the lack of belief on behalf of the atheists eventually goes against logic and reason? now, you don't have to view this in a spiritual way, maybe one day the existence of higher dimensional beings is all but proven for example, and the (now mainstream) atheists 'scoff' at it's outlandish ridiculousness. the funny thing is we will never know, which is why i just wanted to contemplate some new perspectives.
