Will there be a Yes vote for Scottish independence tomorrow, and should there be?

A little late to get a good debate going, but.

A union is only a union when all the states are equal. England has dominated for a long time in the british parliament, and maybe they aren't on paper, but they sure as hell act like they are superior.

Should Scotland continue to be a state in UK? Only if England back out, if you ask me.

What does equal mean to you? Each citizen of Scotland has as much say as any citizen on issues relating to the UK. Scotland also has far more independence in terms of making its own laws that Wales or Northern Ireland. There is absolutely no benefit to them leaving the UK.

Yeah I admit ''equal'' was a bad choice of words. I know that there is equality amongts all the citizens of uk, but I did mention the word superiorl, and that probably describes what I wanted to say better.

And yes there are tons of benefits of leaving the UK. Scotland pays their share of money to the union, and for a country with as many export goods as Scotland, it is just plain stupidity, if you ask me. Not to mention that there have been rumors about finding oil in Scotland, and if that would have happened they would have to share their the reward with the rest of the UK.

If you ask me, there is no point in unions. I live in a Union myself (Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands). Now, Greenland gets a lot out of being with us, but since the Faroe Islands export super high quality fish they get exactly nothing out of it, because they pay more in taxes than they get out being in this union.

In most unions there is always one leader - some say the leader leads the others, but from what we see they just overshadow them. Just like Denmark overshadows the Faroe Islands, just like England overshadows the rest of the union.

While I think there may be real issues to be dealt with, from all I can read the "improvements" the people who are backing the effort are looking for makes Scotland a socialized welfare state...that can't be good.

Why can't a socialized welfare state be good? Let's take norway, which is the richest country in the world, not only as a country but also has the richest citizens, not only that, healthwise they are in the lead too - the average death age in norway is way above 80, which is significantly higher than all non-welfare states. Norway also scores top score when it comes to happiness amongst citizsens.

This is not just norway, look at any bnp or what those lists are called, all scandinavian countries are in the top 5 (most of the time). Is it really a coinsidence? Maybe, but personally I believe the wel-fare system is a great invention.

Can you at least start with an example of a nation that suffered from socialized welfare?

Did Greece have socialized welfare?

I think they will vote no. They are overestimating the value of the oil they can get and it would be better for them to stick with what they currently have.

Side: No

I predict that they are not going to go for independence ;)
