Will these kind of Christians go to Hell or Heaven?

There are "Christians" who are Christians because they're scared of ending up in hell, is that really putting faith in God? Or is that just them trying to save their own ass? And if they think like that, then where do you think they'll end up.

They live good Christian lives, but their reasoning is that they rather believe this and save their ass, than not believe.

For the sake of the debate, let's say Christianity is all true folks. We all know the truth though, so it's okay ;)

It's a total toss-up. Yaweh is such a flakey character there's no way to predict his choices. After all, according to Christians God is "above logic", so there's really no reason to assume his decisions will even be consistent.

If the only reason behind their belief was saving their own ass then aren't they lying to God? Isn't defying God supposed to send them barbecuing? And they themselves are the meat, of course.

Side: Hell

O yea, straight to the 9th circle I believe, Judecca if I recall the inferno. Although it wouldn't send them barbecuing, they'd be locked in ice for all eternity.

Which sounds pretty relaxing, considering that Hell is hot as... well, hell.

Side: Hell

It depends on if they actually believe in Christ or not. If they say they do, but they really don't, or believe very weakly, and think that there might be a one percent chance of there really being a hell, but that that one percent makes acting like a Christian worth it, I wouldn't say that they really are a Christian.

First off, I would like to say that I cannot judge and so I cannot pick one side or the other. I am simply replying and commenting on it.

Matthew 7:21-23

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

Just because someone cries out for God does not mean that they will go to the kingdom of heaven.

Romans 8:29-30

29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

God's elect (God's people) have already been chosen.

1 Corinthians 12:3

3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.

You cannot believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord unless God has allowed you to believe in Him.

Romans 10:11-14

11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?[a] And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

If someone truly believes then they will call upon the name of the Lord to save them. However, you cannot call upon the name of the Lord unless He has elected you to call upon His name.

James 2:19

19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!

There is a distinction between faith and saving faith just as there is a distinction between God's love and saving love. I might add this includes someone simply calling upon the name of the Lord and truly calling upon the name of the Lord.

Jeremiah 17:9

9 The heart is deceitful above all things,

and desperately sick;

who can understand it?

We cannot judge ourselves let alone others.

Matthew 7:15-20

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.

People will be fake Christians; however, a true Christians bear good fruit.

I hope this helps! God Bless!

Side: Heaven

The message and method of the Christian religion is guilt, fear, and submission. Coercion and threats are the preferred conversion techniques, as demonstrated by the Christian god and Christ, himself. God clearly want's a little fear of him in out hears, otherwise he wouldn't have been such a violent, oppressive asshole. Christ fully supported and built upon the idea of hell as punishment for freedom. If a truly kind and wise god was the god of Christianity I think he would prefer people worship him out of respect and reverence, but in "reality" (i.e. scripture and dogma) the Christian god trades on fear and threats. This is most likely because he was created by primitive barbarians, and that crude violence and terror is the only level they knew how to operate on. So I think Christians who submit out of fear stay very much in the realm of what it means to be a proper Christian, at least in the traditional sense.

I agree with this, but doesn't that mean that no one goes to heaven? Because they just think the way they do because they're too scared to think any other way. Not because they actually want to believe it.

But if there isn't a heaven, then they are obeying rules that a human made up.

It makes the church a lot of money, and gives people a feeling of support, even if it's not actually there. The ability to control someone with something that they love with all their heart, or at least are reverent too, simply because that thing lacks it's own voice is a very powerful ability. And you feel guilt free because you might believe it too, just as strongly. That's what happened with George Bush, isn't it? He said God told him to go to war, to defeat terrorists, so he did. But if there is no god, then who told him to go to war? If he actually believes it, then his own mind told him too, knowingly or not.

Otherwise God is insane and wicked beyond measure, for even Muslims still believe in the same god.

The fact that there was recently a schoolbus filled with children that and killed every child inside it proves that there is no god. At least no good god.

Side: Hell

I'm asserting that I think the god depicted in Christianity actually enjoys our fear of him. His actions are often that of a terrorist, getting what he wants using fear as a weapon. So someone who only believes because they are too scared to think for themselves would be very welcome in this god's heaven.
