Women
Why do all the bad things in the bible and folk stories happen because of women? (i.e. eve and the apple, pandora and the box)
Moses the greatest leader of all time in the bible made a fatal mistake which costed him his continuation of the GOd lead journey across the Jordan river into the promised land. Suliman, the most powerful king/ruler in his time sought out wealth instead of following God, and chose to be a slave to other religions and turned against him. During that time suliman met with the QUEEN of egypt and made a strong bond between eachother. Mary the mother of Jesus was a hero. She was the first to see Jesus after his resurection. My point is your comment is way to generalistic. I have a question for you. Have you even read the bible. If you have, ask for some help on this sexism issue for each specific story in the bible where you have problemes with. To put a whole bible under a sexist judgement is going way to far. Take baby steps at a time. 1

I'm not going to deny that the Bible and folk-stories have a patriarchal bent, but your argument is weak. The fact that women are the cause of misfortune in a story doesn't mean that the author of that story was trying to attack women. It's hardly against feminism to have a female character screw things up in a story, it would only be anti-female if the story tried to imply that the female characters caused bad things to happen because she was female. Also, in defense of the Bible, almost everyone in that book is the cause for some kind of calamity. Male or female. Sure you have Eve and the fruit, but you also have David and the census. In folk tales too, it's not just women who are to blame. 1

And why is this irrelevant? This seems very relevant if you ask me. And yes, it does contribute to the debate. It is saying that women, despite their stereotype, can do very great things that are not at all expected of them, but rather are expected of men. Side: Men and women have equal rights

Why does everyone think the fruit that Eve ate in the Bible was an apple?! It never once specifies the name of the fruit from the tree of good and evil. Also, I would be lying if I said men and women were equal. Yes, they have equal rights (and rightfully so), but are not "equal." They are far from it. When someone says "equal" in a context similar to this one, they are usually implying equal rights. But, if that is not the case, please specify. Side: Men and women have equal rights
Women are not equal to men; their representation in government, economic institutions, and social institutions (as leaders) are not prominent given their numerical parity with their opposite gender. Women are underpaid, overworked, and are rarely in positions of power and authority. This, though changing, still leaves them at a disadvantage to men. The reason for this; though, is not any biological differences (by all accounts women are actually stronger and healthier than men). The difference is accounted for in the women's perceptions of themselves, what they feel their place is, their unwillingness to engage in economic, social, or even violent conflict. This stems from social indoctrination, familial indoctrination, and their own inability to break free from these influences and knock down the structures that oppress them. If women are going to become equal to men they are first going to have to become as ruthless, cutthroat, strong, courageous, and aggressive as men. Women are going to have to show themselves to be the strong creatures that they are; women are going to have to take their rightful place as masters of their own destiny, by any means necessary. Women can't be victims anymore; they must train themselves to fight, they must teach their daughters to fight (not just with Karate classes but showing them to stand up for themselves in a number of ways). Every woman should know how to defend herself; legally, physically, economically, socially; they must make men know they cannot be taken advantage of. Every culture, every nation, every class, every religion, every ethnicity, each gender; sexuality; the only way they achieved equality, dominion, freedom, and security is through their ability to defend themselves and maintain their status as free and independent beings. If women are to break free of their chains they must do so in kind. Side: Men and women have equal rights

Because early man was a bunch of dumb superstitious monkey's and the Bible is full of shit. But specifically, I think it was due to insecurity. It exists still today, Middle Eastern States that treat women like property, some far right Christian groups who think women should always defer to the men (Palin's "God and Todd" annoying ass quote comes to mind, like she has to say that so he doesn't get all insecure about her power or something, lame) Anyway, it comes from a couple of different things I believe, 1. low self-esteem among men which leads to a need to dominate the female or they fear they would lose them, since they don't think much of them self. 2. an extraordinarily small penis. Granted the second one I just like to throw in there because guys who act like that annoy me, but I'm gonna stick with that theory as sketchy as my evidence may be. Side: bible is full of shit
