Conservative dissatisfaction with John McCain will lead to lower Republican turnout in the fall. The only thing that could boost turnout is putting Hillary - a most reviled figure to the right wing - on the ticket. They could gain what she offers by putting on a Clinton ally like Wes Clark. Not admitting defeat has damaged party unity so I think she should just go quietly. Had she given a speech which highlighted her achievements, robustness, relentless ambition AND admitted defeat by a better candidate, she would have helped party unity (and I would have allowed her to stay on).
