Would You Consider This Decade Of Music A Failure?

When I ask that, I mean how much talent is actually put into music.

You can like it, but still admit that there is not very much talent coming from the musicians.

I believe most mainstream artists have little to no talent. Most of them do not write their own songs, which is my main reason for saying this.

A person who masters an instrument, whether it be guitar or surbahar, can play well, yes, but say this same person cannot write his or her own music or songs.

Then that person, in my opinion, is not a true musician.

I say this because I think a true musician is an artist who creates his own work, not one that plays another's on stage.

The few out of many artists I listed in my supporting argument all wrote and performed their own music and did it with much success. However, I will agree that most pop and rap is extremely lacking in creative talent. You're right, the mainstream is a terrible place to try and find good music.

Side: No

In mainstream music, the music industry is not about quality but quantity because musicians who can sing not because they love it as for making music, but, they love music because they can earn a big paycheck.

American Idol is not really to find the next big talent, but for Fox to make a lot of money.

To many people in many cultures music is an important part of their way of life. Greek philosophers and ancient Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears" point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to

The reason for this decade of music is so many people turning to things like rap and pop instead of things like rock and metal. Someday rock will rise again, but not until the death of mtv.

Autotune has basically murdered much of today's music. Anyone, without any musical talent whatsoever, could simply autotune their voice, put some crappy lyrics to a beat, and call it music. The sad thing is, people eat it up, too. This music becomes Top 40 Hits and is played over and over, every hour. And what do people get from this music? Nothing. Music is art, and art is created to convey emotions. Unfortunately, most of todays emotions center around getting drunk, doing drugs, and sex. Sure, people feel emotions from these things. But i certainly wouldn't want people's children also hearing people rap into Autotune about these emotions. It used to be about having talent. But now, who needs talent when you can have a catchy beat and meaningless lyrics?

Side: yes

The music is just becoming way too worldly it once to describe the feeling of sex and stuff. Music back in the day had more of a main-stream meaning.

"I'm so hip because I hate mainstream artists since they gots no talents".

Matt Bellamy from Muse writes his own music and plays it. Marilyn Manson (who is mainstream) writes his own shit and sings it. He doesn't play it (except for some rare live moments) though.

The main thing, though, is who gives a fuck? Music is music. Whether it's good or not is all up to your opinion. Is it a failure? Well, people listen to it, so no.

Real quick here, I want to say that I don't hate them, and that I do indeed like some of them, however, I still think the music they play has no talent. Then again, I doubt they care, as long as they got my money in their pocket.

Music is music. Whether it's good or not is all up to your opinion. Is it a failure? Well, people listen to it, so no.

They listen to it now, but are they going to remember it in a couple of years?

The Ivy Three had their song Yogi in 1960. It placed #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. But now, how many people today can remember them?

Now also in 1960, here come the Beatles. Today, almost anyone can tell you about the Beatles.

The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of music vary according to culture and social context. Music ranges from strictly organized compositions (and their recreation in performance), through improvisational music to aleatoric forms. Music can be divided into genres and subgenres, although the dividing lines and relationships between music genres are often subtle, sometimes open to individual interpretation, and occasionally controversial.

I think people think music from certain eras sucks because it isn't tailored to them. I love all music, except for a few genres. And I absolutely love the music that has come out of this decade.

For the reason of Copeland alone, I don't think this decade has been a failure. But there are also a lot of other bands that, in my opinion, have made this decade a musical success: Ryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright, Damien Rice, Muse, Edison Glass, Lydia, John Mayer, etc... there are many more.

If one band makes one good song, then this decade was not a faliure for music.

No, this decade of music was not a failure. As technology progresses, music will also progress. Now it is easier than ever to get in a studio and record a song, or to click a button on the computer and purchase all your favorite music.

Side: No

I would not label this decade of music a failure. There were some great performs along with great songs.
