Getting rid of a linguistic subclass will not do anything but make us use more double-speak and so-called political (in-)correctness.

"The suffix -ism denotes a distinctive system of beliefs, myth, doctrine or theory that guides a social movement, institution, class or group. For example, baptize (literally derived from "to dip") becomes "baptism," a distinctive system of cleansing in water to testify to the forgiveness of sins. It is taken from the Greek suffix -ismos, Latin -ismus, and Old French -isme, that forms nouns from verbal stems. Its usage has since been extended to signify the ideology or philosophy surrounding the element to which the suffix is added."

Besides, what would we do without pacifism, egalitarianism, pragmatism, heroism, Confucianism, activism, capitalism, mysticism, optimism, surrealism, organisms, magnetism, mechanisms, and most especially voyeurism?!

I don't think we would live in a perfect world without them, but it would certainly have a different flavor. Thinking about this, I tried to literally erase the source of prejudices that leapt to my mind and ended up with an extremely beige image. I don't mean to say that "isms" are the flavor of the world and without them life would be cardboard, I just find it very difficult to delete every single one.

Throughout our entire history prejudices and the exploitation of differences were stables in society. Decisions were made based on them, people got more or less dependent on them, laws formed, wars made, etc.

The one that I have the largest problem erasing is sexism. Can one really eradicate a battle that has been ongoing since the dawn of time and varies to extremes overseas? It just seems that so many biases with strong roots worldwide, can one even fathom what humankind would be like without them?
