Would you live on my island nation?

The principles of the nation would be:

1.No single authority shall have power over the people, be it government or private corporation, with the only exception being principle 2.

2.The only governing authority shall be that of the people, and thus the only law will be the rights of the people. Infringement of these rights are trialled and punished by the people. To facilitate justice in this manner, a tribunal of citizens will be elected weekly to deal with serious infringements on the rights of others. This tribunal must also deal with relevant "paperwork" on matters of education and healthcare.

3. No-one has the right to claim special "ownership" rights to any land or resources. Doing so would violate the rights of others to use those resources and land. Each person may take what they need to fulfill their three main rights [Rights, point 2] within reason. The method of determining whether something is "within reason" is by using the rule of "the freedom to swing one's arm ends at another's face".

4. People may join and leave the nation freely. Rights will not be subjugated under the guise of "national security". In this way, participation in any issues in the constitution is voluntary, and may be abandoned in favour of joining a different nation at any time.

Rights

1. All citizens are entitled to all rights at all times.

2. All citizens have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of hapiness. All rights of citizens stem from these three pillars.

3. All citizens will be looked at as individuals, no matter what kind of religious ceremony they have participated in to bond them.

 Life

a) To preserve their right to life, citizens are entitled to healthcare, the necessary resources for healthcare will be taken from the common land.

b) To fulfil their right to life, all citizens are entitled to a full education, the necessary resources will again be drawn from common land.

c) To ensure quality of life, every citizen is entitled to shelter, food, and warmth, supplied as above.

Liberty

a) The principles of liberty are founded on the basis of self ownership: "over himself, his body, and mind, the individual is sovereign."

b) All citizens have the right to do whatever they wish to with their bodies, this includes sexual practices, drug use, and any kind of physical activity that does not harm others without their consent or encroach upon their liberty in any way.

c) All citizens have the right to freedom of speech. This guarantees the right to seek, recieve, and impart information and ideas, regardless of content, message, or offensiveness. All information collected by those in the fields of academia must be publicly availible, the only exception to this right is the right of citizens to a private life.

The pursuit of happiness

a) All citizens are entitled to live any lifestyle they choose provided it does not harm others without their consent. Each citizen is free to choose any career path they are qualified for (each field of employment will have their own requirements for necessary training etc).

b) If a citizens rights have been infringed, they may appeal to the monthly elected tribunal which serves the people as the hand of justice for a trial against the accused.

I'm sick of almost every government and all the economic systems in the world right now. If I'm ever lucky enough to come across lots of money, I'm gonna buy some land and declare its sovereignty from the state (preferably in Canada or the UK, where they won't beat me to death).

It would be a haven for those who have a rather anachronistic mindset, and wish to return to the days when we had the charter of the forest, and people worked the land together rather than selfishly hoarding and claiming property rights over eachother. Call it libertarian socialist, anarcho-syndicalist, left-libertarian, whatever.

So basically, you're all going to be a bunch of gypsies.

I think it's pretty good. On an island, you don't need an economy. You just have a group of people living happily going about their business! How i see what you're describing, is an island, with people on it who grow food, for themselves and everyone. No one owns anything, thus if you make some food, it isn't necessarily yours, and basically everyone lives happily ever after without the burden of politics! Well, that's kind of what i had in mind. Oh and one presumes this island is somewhere hot?? And not too populated??? But yes what you have described sounds good.

so basically america pre-1913? lololololol .

I'd hardly call you an anarchist pinko, but this does seem somewhat similar to Libertarian communism.

Does this utopia have an economy, or do the people work for what they need?

Of course it all sounds lovely on paper, but (and no disrespect is intended here, you've clearly made a decent effort) anyone can make up a utopia.

Making a utopia and putting one in practice with all the wretched flaws of humanity (woots, misanthropy) are very different however, so I probably wouldn't live there. I'm far too greedy and selfish, and I'd probably destroy the society forever.

You get round that by putting long spaces between words. E.g:

"That's ( sssssssssssssssssssssppppppppppppppaaaaaaaaccccce) stupid!" Don't actually type space just put loads of spaces!

You raise some valid views, but you have failed to mention the prosperity of the island.

You can have all the rights and good intentions in the world, but if you're island is not prosperous (therefore unable to provide said benefits), then it's all for naught.

I agree. Realistically, a gift economy can only work in a society that has access to all necessary resources, or if the entire world is also operating on a gift economy system. Ideally, my island/land would have to have all the necessary resources, as without a monetary system there wouldn't be a way to trade with other nations. And if there was, who would own the money seeing as there is no central authority and non-essential private property can't exist in a gift economy system.

... Wait. Healthcare for everyone and education for everyone are libertarian ideas?

Wow. Better inform libertarians.

Edit: This was a reply to Chuck's comment... no idea why it's not showing as a reply to his comment.

He said it was left libertarian, not right libertarian. What we normally term "libertarian" means anarcho-capitalist, but it is possible to have anarchistic socialism and anarchistic communism too.

Side: Seems legit.

Basically what Anachronist said in response to you.

This island would be left libertarian, not right libertarian, which I assume is the dominant libertarian position in America.
