Wow, this is a tough choice.

After thinking about it, though, I find that I would rather be forgotten than hated. I couldn't handle being hated by a majority. I think I would waste all my time trying to keep people from hating me.

Also, I thought that even if I was to be forgotten, as many people are, it is possible that the things I do and/or the things I create or inspire can live on into the future in my place.

I can't stand it when people don't like me.

That depends on whether or not the hate is deserved. If it is deserved, then I would rather be forgotten, the reason is that if I were hatefully remembered with good reason, I would have done harm to someone/people. If I am simply forgotten, then my existence is insignificant, and although I really don't want that, I could live with it more easily than my life having done harm. Besides, I could do good and still be forgotten. I might help someone more than they will remember. And I can live with that.

I don't know if this debate is really intended to be on such a broad scale, but I'm taking it to one. :P

Being forgotten is better than being hated because you have a chance to fix your mistakes and be someone you are proud of being.

Where as if you are hated, you will spend most of your time keeping others from hating you. It kind of depends on what the situation is. if you are a person doing something that people can easily hate you for, then so be it.

Hurray a choice between the two things I don't want to be. I guess I would rather be the unsung hero then the hated enemy. Stupid hard choices. I guess since we will all be forgotten eventually it doesn't really matter, but I wouldn't want to be a bitter memory. Even though I really don't want to be forgotten and am making allot of effort to be remembered I would rather my existence be unknown then to deserve contempt. I guess I would rather live out a neutral humble life then to burn a dark negative memory into the minds of the few I care about. The old me would not have thought this way, there is somebody I really need to thank for this change that could be considered ego death.

Hated by those that cannot comprehend, tolerated by those that do. A liked politician is one that does nothing, the hated one is the one that did something. It is better to do something than nothing. Martin Luther founder of the Lutheran church, once wrote "Sin boldly" I intend to do just that. Dare to lead, it takes little to follow.

In being hatefully remembered you are managing to teach a lesson—these things that I have done can be done, beware. In this way the hatred for you will serve a purpose to society. If you are forgotten (assuming that this includes a forgetting of your deeds and accomplishments), then you have done nothing for society. In accomplishing nothing worth remembering, your only result has been to waste the minute resources to which you had access.

Side: Hatefully remembered

You can be hated without necessarily being "bad." (Exhibit A: Batman!) At least if you're hatefully remembered, you've accomplished something and affected people. Which is my goal in life. It may not even be a negative effect.

Well, Hitler is hated by everyone (including me) but if you take a fair and balanced look at his reign, you can definitely respect the guy.

And, he has a bunch of followers.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind going down in history as a hated figure. If you can't become famous, become infamous.

Personally, I'd rather be a nobody than Hitler.

No one is ever hated by everyone as a whole. Therefore, just in today's world, there are a handful of people that dislike me, maybe even hate my being, but there's also a wider portion that like/love me. Therefore, I would rather, and I will, die being hated (and loved), than forgotten.

When I die there will be nothing left of me but my legacy. If I'm remembered, even if I'm hated, I'd be immortal~

Side: Hatefully remembered

If I'm forgotten it means I brought nothing to the world in my lifetime. If I'm hatefully remembered it means I impacted people in a bad and good way! Those who really knew me could not come away with hatred, only those who thought they knew me but never could.
