Would you rather die today or live forever?

Would you rather die today when the clock strikes midnight, or live forever with the body you have now without showing any signs of age?

Die Today

Side Score: 22
VS.

Live Forever

Side Score: 19

Considering my current adolescent angst and depression, coupled with BPD, I'd much rather die today. Living forever would be terrible.

Well, it's already after 9pm, so let's pretend I'm writing this in 3 hours. ;)

So if I died tomorrow then, I'd be able to take the day to say goodbye to loved ones and just enjoy my last day on Earth. I choose this choice not because "I wouldn't want to see my loved ones leave while I'm stuck here," but because I have no desire to live into the future that far. I believe in Heaven and I'd rather die tomorrow after a short life with few mistakes than live forever and have countless regrets and such.

Besides, life is full of ups and downs and I'd really get sick of the downs after 1000 years! :p

With these as the two choices, die today. I love everything in my life, and have no one to share that love with. To live forever this way, I wish that upon no one.

uh, this is senseless.

By that logic you should off yourself now no matter how long you might live.

I mean the only difference between living forever and living a long time is the number of people that come and go, but they're coming and going whether you're here or not.

kinda dumb logic you're using there thewayitis

Something is only dumb to those that cannot comprehend. Is a student dumb or the teacher too dumb to teach? One does not train a dog to sit, lay down, crawl, etc, the dog already knows how to do these things. What you do train a dog to do, respond to a command. In order for this to happen one must be smarter than the dog or at least of equal intelligence.

Senseless you say. Numbers don't matter. How about size? Ask your partner.

What purpose does your life have? What is that thing that drives you? Mine is to share what I have learned. No one share this with, no reason to move forward. A painter with no brush. Passion lost and all else with it.

Exactly my thinking when asked this question.

Sometimes I think people just want to sound self-righteous when they take the other side on this one.

To sit there and watch the years pass and people I love come and go for eternity? I don't know if I could handle that. I mean, it'd be cool to see the human race go further into the future, but after awhile, would it really be worth it? Plus knowing my personality type, I'd go slowly insane or end up serving like 20 consecutive life sentences or something.

lol That'd be really interesting when they give you 20 life sentences and you somehow live through all 20. They'd be like "Why aren't you dead yet??!?! WTF!?!?" ;)

That reminds me of Daybreakers. I'm quite certain that the vamipres didn't age. A little girl committed suicide, probably after having spent so many years in the same body.

I haven't seen many vampire movies. I prefer zombies and slashers. But I'd say that it was a good movie. Much better plot than I would have expected. I watched it last week on the internet.

I'm a pretty sad seeming person when it comes to personal topics of life and the like.

I don't very much want to live for any reason, I don't know why I was born and i think it's a waste that I'm here, so with that in mind it would be a living hell, literally, to live forever.

well, fuck yeah i'd rather live forever.

Die now? pfft, that would suck.

Imagine all the shit i can get done by living forever. all the shit i'll see. woot.

Think a little bit more about it. Imagine all of the suffering you would have to live through. You would have to live through the lives and deaths of everyone around you. For me it would be pretty cool for a while, but then it start to be quite torturous when I am the last person alive in the world.

Nah. I don't like people that much anyway. Plus, the idea that nothing happens after I die sucks even more. I'd rather have to see all the other people die.

I don't agree with you. Watching everyone we care for die away one after another is for sure, sad, but we're also capable of adjusting to it with a great sense of acceptance and wisdom if we allow ourselves.

However, I'm going to take into consideration the stories I've seen in movies of people (or creatures) that live forever, and none of them are happy about it. It becomes mundane, lonely, miserable and feeling like you're in a trap if you live forever. Personally, part of the beauty of life is that we all die. We have a rough time frame to make the most of our life and it's a lesson to not take anything for granted and fucking "LIVE." You're not living if you're spending your life preparing for your "life after death."

I wouldn't want to live forever. Nor would I want to die today. But I would like a more definite time-frame, to live til 100 years old, exactly.

But you wouldn't be the last! Others would choose to live forever as well and you'll have plenty of company. As for me, I'm not ready to die today so I'll have to live forever, given these two choices. Not a great choice but I'll take it for now.

Yeah, this is a really dumb debate.

I mean, people we know are going to die whether we're alive at the time or not.

Like, me dying won't magically make someone else not die. So if given the choice, why the hell wouldn't you want to live?

Please, "seeing the ones we love die, wah!" lame.

I wonder if anyone else sees how incredibly self-centered this debate really is?

Think about it.

The idea is, the people who would like to die now want to do so in order to avoid facing the death of others.

Meanwhile, we know the death of others is inevitable. Everyone dies.

So what's the point whether you're around to see it or not? Are you so important, or such a martyr, that you're too special to have to go through that pain?

What's so great about you, that you shouldn't have to go through what everyone else does?

Of course given the choice, almost everyone will choose to live forever, I suspect even those who say they would not. Get over yourselves, and you'll get over people you know are going to die as well.

You're right. Choosing to live forever means watching everyone you love and everything you know pass away. Not a good choice, as I said.

And as I said, everyone you know and love is gonna pass away whether you're alive or not... why is that part of the equation giving people so much trouble?

Iamdavidh,

Been here for a year and call others lame. Lame is clearly the words of a loser. Your opinion is just that and nobody really cares about it. To know it most be such a burden. An atheist that plays God.

I'm pretty sure the word 'lame' could be used by anyone who wanted to use it, loser or otherwise. Not quite sure what the rest of your statement is about... wait, unless you're calling me a loser, if so that's not very christianly of you.

Anyway, that you feel my comment is me somehow "playing god" I can only take to mean the truth of it has effected you on some deep level.

Perhaps you'd like to address my arguement, instead of rattling off against whoever it is you think I am.

Live forever, fa'sho. Granted, I would probably regret my decision at times, but imagine all the life I could live. Imagine the different occupations I could have, the good I could do for the world. I also would be able to see what happens to humanity. I would, at times be alone, but could you imagine the freedom? I could go ANYWHERE I want. And I would have time to face all my fears and learn how to love and feel freely.

I am too aware of man's short life to not want to live forever. 70 years is nothing. I do believe that "immortality" will be achieved in this century. It's quite possible within 40 years technology and neuroscience will be to the point where we could store the human consciousnesses much like a program. This in effect is immortality.
