Yale's swaps out 'Freshman' and 'Upperclassman' with 'Gender-Neutral' Terms

Yale University administrators have replaced “freshman” and “upperclassman” with the terms “first year” and “upper-level students” in official campus publications, Yale Daily News (YDN). The terminology shift YDN claims comes from calls for “greater gender inclusivity." “We’re not trying to be language police,” said Yale’s dean Marvin Chun, describing the new terminology as “modern.”

“It’s really for public, formal correspondence and formal publications … we’re not trying to tell people what language to use in their everyday casual conversations,” said Chun.

Just another attack on speech which is soon to come when students at Yale are not gender friendly by using the offensive words "Freshmen" and "Upperclassmen" !

You're telling them not to use two new words. Who is attacking free speech exactly?

I don't agree with Yale's change.

But with that said, I think it's ironic the most vocal conservatives on this site as far as I can tell did not attend college to ever qualify as Freshman vs Upperclassman, yet here you are getting upset about that.

Modern = appeasing pansies.
