I believe in God, but this is not a debatable topic. There is no evidence that firmly declares it a truth or a falsehood, even though there is historical documentations (records of Pilate) that suggest many events that are in the bible did occur. Hence the reason it is called Faith.

Not necessarily. The generic deist god cannot be disproven, but certain gods cannot exist by the nature of being a logical contradiction.

The generic deist god cannot be disproven, but certain gods cannot exist by the nature of being a logical contradiction.

I don't actually think that's the case. Logic is a description of the characteristics of the spaciotemporal realm. That is, it marks certain states of being within space and time. But there's really no reason to expect any god to conform to these descriptions.

I know i shouldn't but I am bored so I will.

I think that the existence of God is mans way of explaining the difficult questions that are presented to him. It is an archaic and flawed hypothesis.

There is a God shaped hole in the human psyche, one that stems from our early ancestors, people of simple mind that saw the sun go up and down, the tides move in and out. They saw seasons bring bountiful harvests and desolate destruction. They knew that if they did something that it had an effect, one that they caused. By simple deduction at some point they inferred that someone or something was responsible for the phenomena they saw and the idea of Gods emerged.

Move on millennia and the creation of society, and the concept of Gods became God, an idea so deep rooted in mans psyche that it became understanding rather than a possible route to understanding. Today it stands as a barrier to full comprehension of the world around us.

Even if God existed I don't think he would as the creator of everything (no denomination mentioned) be happy with the way his people are acting in his name.

I have gleamed from points made out to me by nthdegreeman with exceptionable clarity in a recent debate I have posted that there is ignorance on both sides of this argument and I am guilty at times of ignorant arrogance on this topic, I truly believe that it is too easy an answer and one that should be weighed with reason as well as faith, but reason will always (on the face of it) succeed because faith is unquantifiable.

Weird point to mention, but in Christianity there are multiple gods (Also in Judaism) mentioned. Let -us- make man in -our- image. Christianity really recognizes God as the one that created all on our realm (I also believe in evolution). He also states "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Not that we cannot have other gods, but that none can come BEFORE Him.

Just a little bit of hermeneutics...

Side: God is not real

Do you think that the meaning of this is that God knew of mans inclination to worship many Gods and was trying to say:

"Worship me as I am the one true God and all other Gods are fake and to worship my creation in the name of your fictitious Gods is an insult to me"

or

"There are many Gods but I am the most powerful so worship me or else"

Hermeneutics can be fun. For instance think of the aforementioned command, and consider the Holy Trinity surely even though they are purported to be the one person it is a form of polytheism. Not to mention the fact that there is worship of Mary and people pray to a multitude of saints as well.

Not according to scientific trials. They find no statistically significant affect of prayer.

Heres an idea if you are a person of reason, try asking God for a pink Giraffe that speaks in pig Latin and can play the saxophone. If every time you call on him he answers your prayers he shouldn't let you down.

I am not trying to be an asshole here, what I am trying to illustrate is that people pray for things that can happen, things that could have happened in the natural order of life. In the eventuality of the prayer not being answered then the person praying claims that God didn't want me to have it as he has other plans for them.

I meant this as a dispute to starbaby1996's post.

Well if this is biblical God we are talking about then, he will only answer your prayers if you truly believe he will answer them, or he may not answer your prayers because it is not part of his plan for you to get a pink giraffe that speaks in pig latin and plays the saxophone. Yes this is ridiculous, but do you think anyone could seriously pray that to God, if he/she believed God is the ultimate power?

What a pointless argument, at the end of the day belief or disbelief is faith in a theory, personally I believe there is a God, but I will never be able to prove it, with the current available information we have, just as a atheist/Buddhist/Scientologist will never be able to prove their beliefs right either.

Side: what a pointless debate

To the believer, God is real and nothing can take that belief away.
