Metal has been around since the 60's and it has been around this long for a reason. Playing instruments, singing is true artistic talent. Rap rips off music from real talented groups and change the lyrics to meet their needs. Rap also has a bad "rap" for promoting gang violence and making the law sound like the enemy. Look at movies today, when gangs are doing something or even shown, rap music is played. All in all, rap stars are poets gone mad.

If I must choose between the two than it's metal all the way with the exception of head-banging metal. THAT gives me a frigging headache for sure. To me metal is a viable genre where rap, no matter what they tell us, is certainly not. Here and there comes a song I like with a bit of rap in it and I don't mind that but all Rap...no way! In any case, like Nichole, I prefer Classic Rock rather than these two we're choosing from.

Metal is real music with real instruments with meaning lyrics until rap is made all on the computer. Rap isn't what it was in the 80's when it meant something of real life struggle.

Rap- it's a piece of rubbish, a bunch of lame lyrics with out a proper tune.

But metal is another case. It just keeps you energized with their awesome guitar chords and their lyrics arent'e all soft like pop or rap or some other crap.

Effing neither. Most metal music sounds the same and makes you want to kill yourself at some point. Listen to that stuff in concert; and you'll feel lucky you still have functioning eardrums as well as a brain that hasn't exploded in your own damn head. (I'm 80% deaf and still think metal is loud as shit).

Rap music is somewhat toleratable if you actually give a crap about lyrics and if it they're not talking about raping someone and being proud of it or some dumb shit. But I don't prefer it because I don't care for lyrics. The only rapper I've ever been able to tolerate is Eminem, and it was mostly because he had good background beats and rhythm to go with his rapping, and his rapping was usually funny. He stood out in a better way.

Either way, they both suck. I prefer classic rock.

Metal, because it borrows from many genres and is not just screaming as many people think. Rap, if you forget about the mainstream crap of today, can have some very good lyrics and songwriting, but is somewhat limited by the form in which you must express it, while in metal artists have more freedom in the delivery of their sound (basically all rap songs are going to have something in common while metal songs can be more varied: death, within temptation and queensrÿche are all metal but they don't sound alike at all)

Metal, Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, ect is a very rebellious type of music much better then rap, why you ask? Metal music has more opportunitiesto join in the music world because their is the Guitar, Bass, Vocals, and drums. Rap is just waving you hand in a "W" or or "Y" pattern, ryhming words that never change, wearing clothes that look to heavy to carry (that the reason why their asses are showing), and or course Sex, drugs, rapeing, whores, women wearing tiny clothes that get men to horny to resist having sex with them and then the teenage girl gets pregent or has some kind of nasty disease. I don't see that in Metal music listeners. We just know what to say about the world and who curropted it is and we are making a statement and screaming at the higher class people who don't understand who the little man is suffering. There is some good rap, mostly back when it first came out, but now it all sounds the same with all that auto-tune and the same verses and it's all about the same things. I feel a connection to metal and it usually isn't inappropriate as rap.

Don't even try to say metal is just screaming because to be very blatantly obvious it is isn't just like how not all of the stereotypes toward rap are true. But metal is AWESOME.

I personally prefer to listen to 'extreme metal,' meaning death, black, thrash, doom and speed (I don't like this type) metal. They all require just a tad more skill than rap requires.'

From just this, we can see the difference in skill required on average for each of these different genres. Is everyone the same in skill? No, there are talented artists like Qvkata DLG, Keranov and Eminem in the rapper field. Then, they're are plenty of skillful groups in the metal field... Whourkr, Meshuggah, Cattle Decapitation, Slugdge, Nile (George Kollias is legendary!). Then, there are awful artists like 6ix9ine and icejjfish, and countless bands that I do not listen to.

The beats for rap are normally produced electronically, and remain very consistant throughout the song. Metal is normally produced with real electronics, but sometimes with fake drumkits. There are also 4 or 5 musicians in the bands. A common layout is one vocalist, two guitarists, one bassist and one drummer. Sometimes, the vocalist is also a guitarist. Metal can be very progressive, or it can be technical, or it can be repetitive, or it can be a combination of these things along with others not mentioned. Even the more repetitive bands can be skilled, like Meshuggah with it's extremely odd time signatures put back into 4/4.

There is also the matter of lyrical content. Generally, I believe rap talks mainly about topics like women, drugs, and gang-related actions. Metal covers a wide range of subjects such as the occult, politics, hatred, violence, society, aliens, slugs (I'm looking at you, slugdge), gibberish, death, and more.

While many may write away metal's vocals as just screaming, growling, etc, only a portion of metal does this. Many subgenres like thrash metal and progressive metal mainly use clean vocals. Even if you cannot understand the lyrics, nothing is stopping you from going on Encyclopaedia Metallum or Dark Lyrics and seeing the important things they are singing about.

While metal vs rap is mainly a personal matter, I believe that one can objectively find metal to be better as I have shown through my several arguments.
