During my various debates, my logical arguments have been often ignored. My serious debates were left bare. My logic useless, my appeal to authority fails to sway.

When I employed humor, however, I received various one-ups, replies, and comments. My 'silly' debates attracted some attention. Emotional appeals win again.

According to Socrates, logos- that is, appeals to logic- are the only true form of debate, that all other appeals are based on human fallibility. Is it not, then, a testament to this fallibility that only pathological appeals make any sway? Perhaps this phenomena is exacerbated by the Internet, perhaps it has only recent come to my attention through the Internet as a medium... and the sad truth is that this human fallibility is exactly why so precious few will read this perspective debate.

Were it not detrimental to both the integrity of this argument, or even my integrity as a sophisticated member of human society, I would be want to load this description with various jokes, memes, and other illogical devices that appeal to the primitive rhetoric of the human consciousness.

This explains why I have so many points ;)

Exactly- the epitome of human flaws summed up in one concise statement, a semicolon, and a lonely closing parenthesis. With such staggering insight in only 23 characters, no doubt you are master of debate!

Rather, your short yet empty quips take so little time to write that you are able to inflate your quantified success, which you then use to validate your own claims, which continue to feed into a vicious cycle of zingers and one liners.

Congratulations. You, and others like you, are one of many reasons the internet enabled society have degraded into a cesspool of two girls, one cup. You, and others like you, inflate the digital stream with etymological void and filth. You, and others like you, spell the end of intellectualism.

I hope you are not dissuaded from contributing more to this site, although I understand why you would be. There are intelligent debates and intelligent people and even when engaging with people who are not particularly serious or who pose weak arguments, I learn things. Although CD is not exactly how I, personally, would like to see it, it is a larger source of engaging discourse than I usually have access to in the real world.

For what it's worth, I have taken note of a few of your posts and debate, particularly the alien one, as I hadn't seen that news article before. I just didn't have much to contribute except for general agreement.

In no way to I plan to stop. I fear that I am addicted to intellectual discussion...

Every intellectual hopes to hear another mutter those words, and often feel the urge to spout their own exclamation: YAY!

Sir, you sound depressed and seem to have logical reason to be such. However, you seem to forget that there is more than one to prod an audience's attention away from memes and hilarity. Emotion. Bold. Color. Or all three combined to make an amzing display of understanding. There is more than one way of capturing attention than by using comical means or insults.

As for the inernet as a whole, YES. ITS DEGRADING. With its vast network of access to anyone in the First-world, its bound to be filled with so called Trolls and Haters and even the far less sophisticated, All of which are a given that must be accepted. Something you may notice is that many a people have actually noticed this piece and acknowlegded it in a psuedo-sophisticated manner, or at least a relatively intelligent one. Good enough for at least a start, right?

I did not mean to give the impression of depression. I was simply taken aback by the irony of a short, empty comment in the midst of a discussion about the absence of logic. Perhaps I was harsh, perhaps I was insulting, yet I maintain that however extreme my cynicism appeared I spoke only the truth.
