Sex education should be taught in all schools. It is important for kids to understand their bodies and to know how to have safe sex.

If we don't teach the youth about something as important as sex they'll have to go off and learn about it on their own, and for some it could be deadly or life ending in another way. Another great thing about sex ed that I remember was that it was a good laugh to immature minds, and an easy grade/credit for just knowing what your genitalia are, and how they're different than the opposite sex's.

I believe young people need to be educated on the subject of sex at school. After all, the school is a learning environment therefore it seems most appropriate to teach sex education there. It saves the trouble of having parents explain it all at a later date, and parents might not be a totally reliable source of information.

Side: pro

Sex Education is needed in high schools because there are too many teens telling lies about being abstinent.

Side: pro

Sex education should be done by the parents, not some cold Government employee who could care less about your child.

Back 60 years ago when there was no sex ed., there were far fewer teen pregnancies. Back then we actually had both parents at home teaching the kids responsibility.

Start addressing the core problems of broken homes & quit trying to put band aids on the problem.

We have a moral breakdown in this culture in case you just arrived from another planet. ADDRESS THE CORE REASONS FOR TEEN PREGNANCIES.

If you are too inept to teach your child about sex, do so on your own time by paying someone in the school system to teach your kid.

This assumes we can trust parents to do it properly. A lot of parents are uncomfortable with it, a lot of parents are lacking the knowledge to teach it properly. Many parents don't do it at all, and of those who do, a depressingly high number teach abstinence-only which is proven not to be effective, at all. Hell, if we can't trust Catholic priests to remain abstinent, how can we trust teenagers to?

Back 60 years ago when there was no sex ed., there were far fewer teen pregnancies.

Wheres your source for that? 60 years ago there was a strong social stigma against it, and we didn't have the internet for information to propagate quickly. What little data I have seen suggests it has always been a problem, but in recent years the stigma has lessened and communication tech has improved to draw more attention to it.

Back then we actually had both parents at home teaching the kids responsibility.

Oh, there were single parents back then too. And even today, the majority of children have both parents. Certainly, there are more single parents nowadays, but it's nowhere near a majority.

Start addressing the core problems of broken homes & quit trying to put band aids on the problem.

And how would you suggest going about that? Your methods amount to burying your head in the sand- it's WORSE than a band aid.

We have a moral breakdown in this culture in case you just arrived from another planet.

From a sociological perspective, societies tend to shift back and forth from leaning generally conservative to leaning generally liberal. There are times where the social norm is hedonism, and times where the social norm is akin to puritanism. You're talking 60 years ago, things were better? Well 90 years ago, hedonism was chic. We're simply on one swing of a pendulum, not falling off of a cliff. Remember Lot's daughters, from your Bible? Yep, we've gone far downhill from there, nobody bats an eye when two daughters get their father drunk and rape him.

ADDRESS THE CORE REASONS FOR TEEN PREGNANCIES.

The core reasons are hormones, the rush of going against a taboo, and lack of understanding. We can't do anything about the hormones, but society is lessening the taboo, and sex education is addressing the lack of understanding. No amount of religious morals are going to address that. Again- Lot's daughters. Catholic priests. Your way doesn't work, and your idea of what the core reasons are is demonstrative of your ignorance on the matter.

If you are too inept to teach your child about sex, do so on your own time by paying someone in the school system to teach your kid.

Isn't this exactly what you're arguing AGAINST?

How about this: We leave the timing and methodology of sex education in the hands of the parents- but they are required to generally follow a given curriciulum (just as parents who home school are), with a requirement to have the material completed and a standardized test covering all the topics taken prior to the childs 13th birthday.

I read your first sentence & then I stopped reading. You said "This assumes we can trust parents to do it properly"!

Can you even grasp what you just said? You would actually trust our corrupt GOVERNMENT over parents? You are even more frightening than I imagined. Is this what our world is coming to? Fools who actually want us all to give up control of our children to GOVERNMENT?

Maybe you are simply brain dead and have not witnessed the utter corruption in our Government for decades. They live and breathe off money from those who will control their agendas and you would trust them over parents?

News flash.... politicians are corrupt. They care only for their elections and controlling the minds of easily influenced voters such as yourself.

If you can not be trusted to raise your children "properly", then get out of my life. I have no problem raising my children with good values and teaching them about sex and how it should be saved for the person you love and are committed to, not some one night stand.

Let your untrustworthy parents send their kids to sex ed classes on their own time, NOT MY TIME!

Sex education should be done by the parents, not some cold Government employee who could care less about your child.

Teachers are not government employees. They are funded by the government, but have no ties to the government.

Back 60 years ago when there was no sex ed., there were far fewer teen pregnancies. Back then we actually had both parents at home teaching the kids responsibility.

This statement is misleading. The only reason why there were fewer teen pregnancies is because there were fewer teens to be pregnant. Teen pregnancy rates (pregnancies/teen) is not significantly higher and may even be lower

Start addressing the core problems of broken homes & quit trying to put band aids on the problem.

Unwanted pregnancies come from not teaching "Don't be a fool, wrap our tool".

We have a moral breakdown in this culture in case you just arrived from another planet. ADDRESS THE CORE REASONS FOR TEEN PREGNANCIES.

The problem with teen pregnancy is that people don't want to have sex education.

If you are too inept to teach your child about sex, do so on your own time by paying someone in the school system to teach your kid.

Make people pay more money? I thought you were against that.

I agree that sex education should be taught by the parents because it's their job. But people can't always trust the parents to do that sort of stuff because some parents these days are stupid and spoil their kids. So that's where the schools come in, to educate the kids about sex properly, if the parents suck at teaching their kids about sex.
