Yes, they should be rated just as other computer and video games are.

Supporting Evidence: Video game content rating system (en.wikipedia.org)

OK, now I feel stupid... you are right. But then how would parents be able to know if this game is ok or thier kids?

Side: yes

I think they should have warnings about violence. It simply allows people to make an informed choice about what they want to play, or want to allow their kids to play. If a game hasn't got warnings, you can usually tell from what type of game it is whether or not it will be suitable for a child. World War II mega-shoot-em-up probably won't be suitable, where as Barbie's Funworld probably will.

Sometimes the games industry (and government when legislating) treat parents like idiots. People are well aware without warnings if a game will be suitable; the fact is that the majority of parents simply don't care.

But still, there's no excuse simply not to put them. Some people want them, so why not just put them on?

There are way to many things that might need warning labels according to that logic. First video games, TV and movies but the internet etc. is only the next step. Parents already get to control their child's life that doesn't mean they should get to tell free unrelated individuals what to do. If you want to protect your child it is your burden not everyone else. If you care that much about violence and sex and there is no rating system than quit being lazy and research the product/service yourself. If someone is marketing their game to young children then often they will be rated. It makes good business sense but shouldn't be enforced.

Movies already have them, as do TV programs. I'm simply saying that there is no reason not to have a small screen pop up right at the beginning saying "This game contains excessive violence, etc." The video games industry is already regulated and warnings must be given for certain types of games. It makes sense to do this for internet only games.

I totally agree that parents are ultimately in charge, and should make sure originally that all games are suitable for their kids, but that's not really what happens in the real world. The point is that there is no good reason not to do it.

this is a topic that has been on a radio station so i decided to make the debate on cd

i believe no because some games mite be like

---excessive violence--

---sexual references--

that would turn some people off a good game

Excessive violence and sexual references would make me all the more willing to play. That's my type of game! Just add in some occult references and strong language and you have a best seller.

Side: yea

Internet games should have the warnings the game makers decide to put on. That simple. They normally put warnings on anyway.

why bother it can be a matter of personal opnion and that leads to som saying a batman game is ok and others saying it sounds too much like a gun or he throws too many punches at the Joker.

Side: NOPE

It is an issue that many people are sensitive to. I think we should just have very strict ratings.
