I think it already is. It's a good abbreviation but try not overuse it...

Not in the general dictionary but in the Acronyms, Initialisms and Abbreviations Dictionary though. They can also add ROTFL, BRB etc. Why not? Of course people will resist these terms but English is an organic language and it's interesting for me to see these new developments.

A dictionary is a collection of words, also known as a lexicon, which people use in their lives. Nowadays the word 'LOL' is used by a big number of people in the world. So, I think this word have to be in the dictionary.

LOL is a term, and dictionaries are supposed to explain terms. Therefore, LOL should be in a dictionary. There's no reason why it shouldn't be...if it is not already. It can fit under the section Abbreviations.

Side: Yes

Because that acronym is a part of our language. I know, LOL is annoying but it has replaced "groovy" as the new word in this age.

"lol" ought to have died long, long ago. It is the most annoying, obnoxious three letter combination in the English language. Every time I see it I feel like I die a little.

In my opinion, I am absolutely against addition of this word to the dictionary, and there are some reasons which i have decided to write about:

1) First of all, if we start adding the words like LOL, AFK, IMHO, etc, our next generation will lose their native beautiful language. The language will be not eloquent like it is now.

2) There is no need in addition of this word namely. For example there are so many other beautiful full words which mean the same.

3) Time by time, if we add these words like LOL, our dictionary will get dirty.
