Having a uniform promotes student unity and forces students to focus more on learning than on outfits. Going without uniforms allows for student individuality of course, but you can still be an individual while following a uniform dress code. I went to a private high school with western business dress code- shirts and ties every day. I felt like I focused more on school than I would have if I cared about what I wore every day. And we could still be unique to some extent.

Regardless, if feeling unique is so important, no one is stopping you from wearing what you want outside of school.

In Britain we have to wear uniform but every once in a while we have "mufti" days when we get to come in our normal clothes normally in exchange for a small donation to charity. Every single one of those days is awful, how kids are always judging other kids for the way they are dressed and how fashionably so. I really can't imagine what it would be like every day. It just results in a fashion contest, not a place for education.

This is a rebuttal of the claim that school uniforms do not let students express their personality.

Contention 1: Personality is not just expressed by your clothing. You can express your personality in many different ways.

Contention 2: School uniforms are needed as they express the school's image as being united. If school uniforms are removed, and everyone gets to wear different clothes, most people would lose their sense of unity and belonging. Besides, would it not be utterly ridiculous to see a school on a class outing trip wearing different colored clothes? The class would look ridiculous.

Contention 3: If a student have a horrible personality, is he allowed to wear clothes containing obscenities such as profanities. If the ones who claim that school uniforms should be abolished as they give us the ability to express our personalities states that students should not be allowed to wear clothes with obscenities, then they are contradicting as wearing a clothes with obscenities is also a way of expressing your personality.

In conclusion, I am confident that with deeper analysis, one would definitely agree with me that School Uniform should not be abolished just because of that one way to express your personality.

I think we must bear in mind that to begin with the purpose of school is to learn and not to use school as a tool to target weaker or poorer members of society. As a scholarship student in an international school which in non-uniform, I know how much pressure their is to make sure you have a wide range of clothes, and as many of the students are very wealthy, it is easy to distinguish between who is scholarship and who is wealthy. Students should not have to feel self-conscious of how they look going into school. Furthermore, uniform helps create some authority between teachers and students as it shows that they are there the same as all the other students, and they will not be treated differently because of any external factor.

Schools choose to wear uniforms for bragging rights. For example, Challenger is a very famous elementary school that requires students to wear uniforms. They do this to show that this student goes to Challenger, and gives them something to brag about. Others may do it as a way to earn profit for the school, or as a form of discipline. I dislike uniforms because they are usually cheap, low quality clothing sold at a higher price.

However, there should be uniforms for PE, because some clothes like jeans just aren't the best to wear during exercise.

I don't see an issue with wearing a uniform for bragging rights. Everyone should go to a school that they are proud to represent. The issue there would be the schooling system, then.

As for prices, you're right. My high school's uniform policy was simply shirt and tie. So we purchased our own attire (well, our parents did) instead of buying clothes from the school.

That isn't necessarily true. In Britain every school has uniform, including the ones with bad reputations.

I think there should not be school uniforms because it shows personality. If everyone had to wear the same things then they cant be as original and in some extreme cases can make the students feel bad or trapped inside the uniform. Yes it makes it easier to to pick your clothes but your clothes should show their own personality.

However to what extent could 'personality' be changed into 'wealth'? Clothes do not define who you are or what your personality is like, that should be apparent with your aura and your attitude. School is a place to study and to learn not to make a statement with your clothes.

Kids shouldn't have to wear uniforms in schools because kids should be able to express their personality, and clothes are one way to express our personality.

You are correct in saying that clothes expresses personality, however, you can express your personality in a lot of other ways. Besides, your argument is ridiculous as there is a flaw. Let me ask you this question, if a student is a rude student with a bad personality, should he be allowed to wear clothes with obscene images?

I think that there shouldn't be uniforms in school because, kids should be able to express their personality. Having no uniforms gives kids a way to express their original personalities.

Personality is not always expressed with clothes. There are many other ways of expressing your personality.

I think students should be able to wear whatever they want because it is a way to express your personality and it can even help you make friends.
