The country may have a high GDP; however, there are so many people that the per capita income is still quite low. Many of the people of India live in the slums, and those who are near the Ganges bathe in it, defecate in it, and bury their dead it in. The conditions are extremely unsanitary and many streets are riddled with litter. Cows walk around free and can cause major traffic jams. Side: never
In terms of GDP they might -- eventually. But not by 2020. India has a looong way to go before it catches up with the US. Also I'm not sure whether India's massive population is more of an asset or a liability. There's lots of potential there, but also a lot of mouths to feed. Side: never

population is not a problem for the Indians because china also have a great population and second thing is that now this time any one can not say that India comes after America even from many sides America is depended on India .India can over come America before 2020. Side: yes
Not by 2020. It's social problems aren't as problematic as western social problems. It's poverty issues shouldn't be overlooked but will eventually decline - it's more to do with polarity of lifestyles than economic or social issues. It will slowly become better... but will quickly get worse. I went India 4-3 years ago and again a few months ago. The rate at which it has grown economically is great... but socially it has inherited some of the west's problems - sluttiness, individualism, lack of self respect and dignity etc. etc. I haven't seen a degrade in communities or community values but I'm pretty sure it will slowly occur. However it's only in small pockets of urban areas this is occuring. Hopefully being India it won't affect the whole country. Side: Not by 2020

If the U.S.A's economy didn't grow at all, and the Indian economy continued to grow at current rates (6%) then I have calculated that it would take 44 years for India to match the U.S.A.. Even then, the U.S.A's GNP per capita would be five times that of India. The Indians on this site are letting their pride get ahead of their sense - it will never happen. Side: never

They r not letting their pride they r telling the truth......... I have already provided the necessary statistics. Unless you can provides some information which shows that India's economy will continue to grow, without slowing at all, and that the U.S's economy will remain stagnant, then I shall be disinclined to believe you.
