When I think of creativity beyond clothes, make-up, hair, and etc I realize how uncreative school can be for us students. We come in our own dress attire, but do we learn what sparks our minds? The majority of teenagers don't dream of being scientists, mathmeticians, or english professors; so why is that all we learn? We have the ability to play in band, orchestra, dance, sing, or cheer, but that doesn't fufill most of our minds either. Every aspect of school is clearly based upon getting the best grades, studying, and learning more, but I truly believe that not every child is cut out for academics. Some people's minds are more creative naturally, and when they come to school, it is like a prison. They aren't good at academics, studying, and they cannot express the things in life they would like to accomplish. It's not that they are dumb or lazy, just different in the thinking process. It is unfair in a way how those who live to express, and learn by expressing, have to conform to the standard academic way of life. Some of the greatest people in the world do not have college degrees, but can invent songs, books, movies, poems, and much more just by learning through living.

I understand were your coming from but what about the rules that the schools have that hold back that creativity? For example KMAC we can't do anything funny because were not being professional or were being inappropriate. This is all because of the new principal that over us, that's her rule.

I believe that school does kill creativity because all the work we do is on our laptops. If we try to do anything that isnt exactly what the teacher asks of us, we get written up or in some kind of trouble. For me, I work better when I have music to listen to, but a lot of teachers won't let students listen to music until our work is done. We also are not allowed to dress the way we wish, I mean we aren't supposed to wear anything with skulls and crossbones, or certain colors, or even rosarys without being considered in a gang. Its a little ridiculous.

Indeed, some schools rather limit our view of our own selves. Schools can't really kill creativity because killing creativity is like having no brain. Without the brain the body would be lifeless, and without creativity in our lives, all of us would be the same. Without our own ideas or beleifs.

I believe that to a certain extent, schools can subside ones creativity. Such as making all assignments on laptops and the internet. All of the work is banal and ordinary word documents or tests online. How does this truly allow a student to be original? This type of modern day technology has the power to kill all creativity or be a catalyst towards greater creativity. I think it just all depends on what the teachers or school faculty will allow you to do on the laptops. As a student at Macarthur High School I can honestly say that even though we have a great system with the laptops, there are too many restrictions to where you can't really do anything at all. If students had a little mor efreedom on the laptops i think creativity would be the least of our worries..

I think that school does kill creativity a little bit because of all the rules we put on everyone. Some people express their creativity through their clothing, but the school dress code rules won't let them dress how they like. Other people use their creativity in other ways, and the school doesn't hold them back from doing so. I think school's could lighten up on some rules so that more people could express their creativity.

When it comes to creativity the possibilities are endless. Everyone has a unique way of expressing themselves, and in my opinion schools limit that. Only upon request are your ideas and imagination warranted. Teachers create outlines, construct tests and demand certain formats. "Standardized tests" eliminate the opportunity to be creative and really make you stand out from others. By forcing these rules on students we are no more than a letter grade to them. After a while this system becomes a routine for students and we inevitably just "follow the rules", not giving creativity a second thought.

I think schools do kill creativity. Most people have an imense amount of potential to be great artists or go into other creative fields. We are not, however, encouraged to follow our own paths. Schools now focus more on standardized testing, (which doesn't really prove anything in the first place). If our school system put as much emphasis on the arts as they do into TAKS, maybe less people would end up dropping out. There's no possible way our administrators think that the whole of our student body can be clumped into a select few categories. People have different goals in life, sure some may want to be a doctor or lawyer, but alot of people want to be musicians or actors, we should accomedate those people as well.

Yes, schools do kill creativity because everybody is different. people have certain types of clothes that they want 2 in their own way... people have thier own style and schools take that away by taking away things such as gym shorts, sweats, house shoes and things like that and most students lose their creativity when they take away those type of things

Without creativity the world would be plain, black and white. Thank goodness in reality the world is not that, well there are some places that is like that. Schools to some actually do "annihilate" creativity. We are forced to take notes, do homework, forced listen to very insipid lectures that do not change from grade to grade. Here in Dallas, almost every elementary and middle school must were nothing but uniforms until they start high school. The fact that the shirts are just plain red, blue, and white, kills the very essence of having the chance of wearing whatever they like. Even in high school we still have to follow a dress code, for example no gym shorts. This rule which was introduced to my school last year angered some students. It forced them to wear anything besides gym shorts to school. Even though you leave middle school or high school, or even college, you still have to follow the rules in the real world. Even if the school has many classes that "encourage" creativity, that doesn’t mean that you have a lot of creativity, it basically limits it. Even the next generation after us will face the same problem of many schools lacking creativity

I think school do kill creativity, because kids show their creativity through the way they dress and how they present themselevs. Also school limit on how far you can go with creatity, for example the volleyball team made a shirt about how they feel on how they play their game. But can not wear the shirt no more, because they JV parents thought the shirt was in apporitate. The Varsity really couldnt figure out what was wrong with the shirt. So I do think school do kill creativity.

Creativity is all around school. Football games and school plays bring alot of it, because people like to dress up and look nice for a play and for football games people make signs and shirts which is creative. Creativity makes school fun.

Yes I think it does. When I was in middle school I had to wear uniforms to school. I felt like all of us were the same. No one could be thier own complete self, it kinda felt like we were in prison for 8 hours a day. Wearing the same over and over again, like we are in the prison. So I really think school does kill creavity because it feel like we are in prison. and no one can express theirselves with the clothes their wear. Because what we wear is the way we veiw our self. and our style.

Yes i do think that schools are killing our creatitiviy becuses now and days we do nothing bur sit in a room in learn from a book there's no hands on projects or see for our selfs.I feel that they are some teachers that do belive that we do did creativity but there more that dont. I feel like there needs to be more than just books or just half a lesson on dance or fashion design we want to go beyond on that not just sit on one level.

i feel that the school really lacks on creativity, we need to come together as a group and talk about some of the ways we can make it better. they lock us down and wont let us do near as much as they use to, no more gym shorts and how they have mad the school a very controlling society. teachers should let the students be more opened up to there self and maybe people woud feel more comfortable about meeting new friends or tryin new things. if the school was more creative then maybe the students would want to be more involved and try harder, but at the same time have more fun.

as young people will are filled with creativity and school doesnt help in expressing it. istead of helping "bean" makes us hate coming to school and showing our self as how we are. this is a school not a boot camp

Schools do kill creativity. They don't allow us to express oursleves a lot. Specially the people who are incharge. Like when they took away the talent show from the students of Macarthur high school Talent show is all about students creativity School talent show is the main event where students can express tham selves and show other students how much talented they are.

I believe that schools do kill creativity in student. Self expresion at MacArthur high school is rejected. The students in school can not fully express themselves, they do not feel the freedom they deserve thus, killing any creativity they might have inside their mind. To me, this is a death to our future. If the schools are killing creativity in the students, how are they suppose to run our future. Without creativity, we would not have electricity. I don't know about you but tieing a key to a kite during a thunder storm is pretty creative. Where would we be today if school killed the creativity that benjamin franklin had. Schools should let kids express themselves how they want to. You never know what could happen. Just because u let one kid express himself, he might become the person who finds a cure for a disease. The schools are just dumb and need to worry more about how the teachers are teaching than what students are wearing....

Hmm..do schools kill creativity i would say yes! Because look what happen to all our fun school spirit days..they aren't as fun anymore. I remember adopt a senior, i remember how the pep rallys used to have the radio stations over, people used to try to come up with different programs to make school more fun and inviting. We don't even have talent shows anymore! WHY! I love to see the many talents of the students at our school it showed our career path and what we wanted to pursue. That is educational stuff alot of the talent show had what people wanted to study in school. They say that all those school spirit and fun stuff we had before wasn't very educational no not really it doesn't make us better in grades or anything, but to me education needs to be inviting people need to make people want to come to school, all that has been taken away. Even adopt a child got boring, people create these programs to help other people with their lives why did they have to suck the fun out of that. We should be able to want to come to school and Learn something great and have fun while we are at it.The school needs to get "more" involved with the students instead of feeding in our minds that education can't be fun.

The creativity level that the schools has isn't very much teens should be able to express themselves. Most young adults want to be heard and feel like they can share their expressions with everyone and the school doesn't let you. I believe that creativity should be shared in which ever way you want. For example when you are assigned a project your teacher tells you everything she wants and she expect from your project you have a very low portion that is you.

I think that schools definantly are killing our creativity. In english for example, when ever we wright an essay they tell us what we have to wright about and how long it has to be. Why can't we just wright what we want and however long we want it to be. Why just one page some students actually have more than a page to say. Alot of students cant talk about their emotions what makes the teachers think they can wright about them, some of the promts we get are just so stupid. "Explain a time in your life when someone had influenced you to do something?" Seriously? I dont know about you but i dont want read an essay about that much less wright about it.

The school district is one of the ultimate killers of individuality. I have attended Macarthur for 4 year now and have been in trouble with the administrator multiply times just for trying to "be me". It’s like they single any one out who has not conformed to there idea of regularity. But I I’m stubborn, the real me is going to shine no matter what the opinion of others is. Because at the end of the day when all the teachers and students go home you are still going to be you.

I believe it does, because it stops people from expressing them selves. Beginning with clothing they are really strict with dress code i believe we should be able to wear whatever you want as long as its not exposing too much. Another way i think its killing creativity is because we don't really get to have that many school events that lets us have fun instead of just being stuck in class all the time. We barley have as many peprallys as we used to before know we have one like every other month. So i believe school does keep us from creativity doesn't allow us to have fun and express ourselves.

Schools are creativities enemie. to be creative means you have a brod thinking about things. Yes i belevie that schools kill creativity, because schools do not focus on the kids and what they want and what they want to pursue. They think that there school guide that is made up by them as abults is the answer to kids. If kids where able to voice there oponions and there oponions were used then kids wouldnt belevie that school sucks and is a waste of time. Now i know that there are many kids and many creativities that kids have. but the fact that a school focuses on the kids then focuse on what they think is best. Then kids and schools would get along great.

One way for us to show our creativity or express ourselves is through how we dress, but how are we gonna be creative if they give us a dress code!?!Although it is understandable we need a dress code, the school over does it by giving us alot of set of rules about how we dress. So yes, school does kill our creativity.

I think that school does kill creativity. Lately everything has been on the computers. We never work in groups or do cool activities. Every class is the same for me, i walk in and the teacher says get out your laptop. I think there would be more creative if teachers would be a little laid back and actually teach the students.

Most people think that school is supposed to encourage you to do what you want with your life, and to "follow our dream". However that's not how the school works. All schools do is teach you how your supposed to do things instead of letting us coming up with magnificent ideas to run things more smoothely and be able to produce faster service.

schools kill creativty by not allowing the students do things such as spirit poster and little things that take away the school spirit. Those things are little things that make the school boaring and dimenish the school spirit.

Yes, schools do kill creativity in different ways. One being the fact that students can not wear certain clothes, therefore they can't really be who they are because they have to be what the school wants them to be. Another is how at any games or after school activities students have to behave a certain way, how are they supposed to express their spirit for the team. Many students paint themselves with school colors but some get punished for it. Think about it, they spend all that time painting their bodies to show support for their team yet some are not even let into the game. A few teachers at school do not allow students to write in pen with a color that is not blue or black ink. To many girls that is a way of expressing their creativity, but are yet unable to do so because of rules they need to follow. I feel schools need to loosen rules that are not necessary and let their students express themselves.

Yes. Especially our school. They have taken away a lot of our rights. Such as getting to kidnap the new members of teams. I think that kidnapping really got to show who we are and what we do, and when we could kidnap, we would dress up newbies in funny ways, and in a lot of ways that showed how creative we can really be, because we put a lot into making that persons outfit for the day crazy. They also have limited a lot of what we can do in our classes, like the type of movies we can watch and the type of projects that we can do. So i definitely think that they are taking our creativity away

Most schools are very strict on what rules they have, and i think that it limits the creativity of students that attend at that school. For example, not all students are in the classes they want were they can express and actually do what they like. Schools should have pore extracurricular activities and a wider variety of programs and electives.

I think that school really does kill creativity, because there are students that express themselves in many different ways. Not everyone is the same. We are all different and like different things. Some students like to express themselves on drawings, and some of them draw graffiti. So some of the administrators think that it's gang realted, but it really doesn't mean that they are in a gang.

I believe schools do kill creativity. For the simple fact, they always projects, essays, plays, and etc. in a specific way and a student just might be able to shine in that moment and make it their own but you'll never know because they want it done their way.

I think that they do kill creativity because when it comes to fashion they don't really let the students be creative with what they are wearing, or the teachers might think that stuff are gang related but really they aren't, and really that hurts the students. isn't it said don't judge a book by its cover. but isn't that what the school is doing by not letting us be creative or let us wear what we want?

I believe that schools do kill creativity because, students are not able to express their selves as they would on a normal basis. We get in trouble for trying to show our innermost beauty to others, and they say its either inappropriate or we shouldn't do it at all, because we might offend someone.

I think in my own opinion that schools do kill creativity, my reason for this is that a lot of times administration thinks it's gang related. I believe that students know were to draw the line from appropriate and inappropriate. We might have those few students that are ignorant and don't know were that line needs to be drawn, but I don't think that all the students should be punished for those few students mistakes. A lot of the times instructors push the students to do above and beyond, or they say " You can do better then that." . It seems most of the time when students listen and show their creativity whether it's art class or an essay for English class ninety percent of the time they get in trouble for being explicit or they did something that is gang related. So yes, in my opinion schools do kill creativity for students.

Every year a new trend begins, and every year the school staff trys to prevent students from expressing their selves. The fact that we can not wear any type of head gear makes no sense what so wrong with wearing hats? I think the school adminastators do not realize that were in a new generation and we would like to express our selves more! Also the school allows us to have a student body president but yet when the student president wants to do something new the principal has to approve of it and in most cases they do not approve of new activites we want to do!

Schools do diminish our creativity by telling to do something a certain and giving us low grades if we don't dumb ourselves down. Discovering new ways to do something is like nitrous oxide for brain development. The way some teachers conform us by focusing on just doing a task and not allowing the student to ask why we do it. Also, on projects we are told to write it or make it a special way, not letting us use the part of the brain that we get to use so little because of the school system.

Sometimes schools kill the fashion creativity for some students but that's not the only reason why. Students express themselves in many different forms. For example, some students express themselves in art or music and by being told what to draw or what to play isn't exactly fair. Some students want people to see them for their talents and in some cases you can't do that in school because of all the rules, but it could also depend on the teacher or administrator. However, school can also be a very influential place where students can open up a whole new path and find something they can be truly great at. Teachers can open up a whole new level of ideas and options.

Yes schools kill the creativity of their students. They don't allow us to dress exactly the way we want to that way we can express ourselves. Some have even banned metal belts because they can be used as weapons. Well if you want to be technical a shoe or a pencil could be used as a weapon too. Schools need to figure out that nobody goes to school to kill somebody.

I think the school doesn’t limit our creativity because there are many options for our choice in classes such as, there are classes where you can do hair, or clothes or maybe you want to be in business and do architecture or accounting also we do kuder it looks at what students want so we can get funded for new classes so students can do what they like so there are classes where you can express yourself you just got to join them.

Do schools kill creativity; is that even a serous question? No they don't. It isn’t like we are in school all day everyday of our lives. Now yes we do spend a good portion of our day for almost 12 years of our lives in school, but what the school doesn’t let us do doesn’t mean that we can’t do it outside of school. It just means we have to plan things outside and away from school. I think a lot of kids blame the school because when a school doesn’t want to add a new club or some type of an organization, because of money problems or teachers not wanting to participate, they believe it’s the schools fault and they can’t do what ever it is they want to happen. So as far as I am concerned the school cant kill my creativity.
