While I believe the death penalty should only be used in very narrow circumstances, raping a child is one of the most heinous and egregious acts possible and I think that it should constitute a death sentence.

I agree with the disappointment in this verdict that Justice Samuel Alito felt. Alito who wrote in his dissenting opinion that this decision by the court means that the death penalty would not apply “no matter how young the child, no matter how many times the child is raped, no matter how many children the perpetrator rapes, no matter how sadistic the crime, no matter how much physical or psychological trauma is inflicted, and no matter how heinous the perpetrator’s prior criminal record may be.”

This is very disturbing that people that commit such a terrible and serious crime will not face the ultimate consequence.

It's a sad, terrible thing that our court system is so broken and makes so many mistakes, but that court is only human and typically sane. The individuals who are put on death row are nearly always incurably insane--might I even say, "evil"?

I generally believe in the good of all people--or at least the potential. But there are some out there who are truly, honestly, incurably, and criminally insane. These criminals do not have the tools or abilities to function in the world we live in. They prey upon other humans in manners that a typical jury (you and me) cannot fathom. They see themselves as justified and are unrepentant.

Having an incurably mad predator in prison for life does nothing but waste our society's resources. The GOAL of the prison system should be to rehabilitate criminals--not punish them. Their punishment should be serving humanity. But there is no humanity in the criminally insane. They have no place in this world.
