It took me a little while to locate the specific legislation (H.R.5868), but I was curious to see what (if any) fine print was in the bill. It appears that the Caleb Martin-Travis Dodson Wounded Warrior Retention Act, sponsored by congressman Pearce, applies only to those soldiers who were wounded in combat. That being said, the personnel who would be eligible for retention under this legislation would not face combat only because they had already been injured and are no longer physically able to fight. What if the primary purpose of the bill is to prevent the military from having to train new, non-combat personnel?
