The two main types of debate are 2-Sided Debates and Popularity Contests. 2-Sided Debates are for issues that can be broken down in to two discrete sides (i.e. "Yes" or "No"). Popularity Contests are for debates in which there are a number of different potential winners (i.e. "Which is the best...", "Who's the hottest...", etc).
