P.E. should definately be more available in fat countries i.e. American , UK, Canada?...
Not only does it develop your physical fitness, but it develops your brains physical funtions i.e. hand to eye coordination, balance, psychomotor skills, how to work in groups, to lead, to follow etc. A lot of skills that are difficult to teach in a classroom can be taught on the field.
The problem is kid's attitudes towards doing anything physical. Me and my friends used to run around non stop every break and lunchtime, P.E. lessons and if possible after school. As we grew we used to trade pokemon cards, play the game while girls used to try and be all grown up and talk and gossip etc. Nowadays kids probably want to play video games in their free time.
P.E. used to be people's favourite lessons. Now kids hate it. In the space of 1 generation. This country is fucked.
P.E. is not enough. We should do much more to educate a growing population of obese children and TV and video game couch suffers.
I say lets make health a lifestyle from grade school through life.
Exercising for a minimum of thirty minutes a day can do wonders for a child. Exercising helps release built up energy and it also releases endorphins, which are said to make people feel better and happier. I believe requiring students to take a P.E. class every year should be mandatory unless the student is involved in some other sport of after school physical activity of if the student in physically disable. As obesity continues to be a problem in the country we need to work together to teach children healthy habits as early as possible. By requiring physical activity in schools starting at the elementary level and continuing through high school, schools will be promoting healthy lifestyle habits that will hopefully be long term and continue into adulthood.
I am probably a good person but I haven't taken the time to fill out my profile, so you'll never know! |
