This is one of my disputes from the Room 122 argument

Your argument that living with the complication of taxes may seem appealing, however, without taxes there would be no way for some fundamentals of our society to be paid for. Specifically, the taxes are put towards infrastructure improvements (bridges and roadways) and government programs (such as education, housing and healthcare). Additionally, you mention that society would become more community oriented. Again, this seems like an appealing trait, but if our country was more community oriented, our country would become much more susceptible to being invaded by other societies because it is not unified in any way and each locality would want to promote its own interests above neighboring communities. Lastly, although we could rely on others skills, it is important for government to regulate certain trades and industries so that working conditions are safe and no one can take advantage of anyone else.

Government is necessary, as it is fundamental to our society in that it provides order, protection, and regulation. First, government keeps society organized as it sets laws that must be followed. These laws restrict people from acts that could be harmful to society, such as not stopping at stop lights, or restricting people from breaking into houses. Although these laws restrict some of our freedoms, it provides a roadmap for acceptable behavior within our society and provides for order. This being said, the government also provides vital protection for society. These protections include handling foreign affairs and providing a national military, specifically making it so people can not just come in and take over our territory. Additionally, the government provides basic protections such as distribution of consequences for those who riot, and or commit violent acts without reason. Furthermore, governments set regulations to regulate industries and goods such as water quality control, minimum standards for working conditions and different sizes/shapes of items that can be sold. This is essential to society as it helps to eliminate the selling of fraudulent goods that could be harmful and provides for safe working conditions. One may argue that without a government, one may feel that they have complete freedom. However, even though complete freedom, may seem attractive, it also allows for many problems as I have mentioned before. Without regulations on goods, there is great risk for goods to not be up to proper standards.. There are many regulations that we as a society do not think about, as we are not affected by them. Additionally, one may argue that without government there is greater room for personal success without taxes. Again, while this may seem appealing, taxes help provide for safe, paved roads, strong bridges, etc. Thus again, these taxes are needed to keep society functional. To conclude, government is necessary, as it provides order to society, sets regulations, and provides protection for the greater good of society.
