I agree with your statement. Without the government civilization would be at risk with the most day to day tasks. This could extend from driving to natural disasters, such as, as you stated, Hurricane Florence. We would not have the safety of our police force and firefighters to assist us to evacuation. Supplies would most likely run low due to shoplifting and robbery, and families would starve. I also agree with your statement of people fighting for power. Eventually, it would become teritorial and families could risk being seperated.

Some may say life without a government would way more efficient and free. That we as a civilization would progress at rapid speeds. I believe the government is essential to civilization and how we live our day to day lives. First, people would no longer feel motivated to work. Unemployment would rise rapidly and services would no longer be available. Following that, society would no longer pay taxes, which would lead to the destruction of average public services. Examples of that would be filling potholes, repairing power lines, firefighters, police forces, armed forces, child care/education, public transportation, and many more. Second, civilization would fall into chaos. Without laws, crime rates would skyrocket, putting everyone in danger. Murder, robbery, shoplifting, drug use and gang violence would be everywhere. Children and adults alike would be at risk. Traffic laws would no longer need to be followed which would lead to, drunk driving, speeding, going through red lights/stop signs, ramping, and no real rhythm to the road. Third, with the increase in robbery and shoplifting, money would begin to lose all value. There would be no consequences to these actions, therefore, the economy could never improve. Lastly, eventually, someone would try to create or claim a form of hierarchy for the people. This could lead to an even more corrupt government than what we started with. It could also lead to new claims of territory, and gangs leading to power.
