War is justified under certain circumstances. Trying to negotiate with a country does not always work, and many governments are different. If one country is harassing the other and doesn't show signs of stopping, what can the other country do? If one country bombs another, what do they do? Take it and move on? War is justified when it is Last Resort, or there's a good cause to go.
Reading will give Scout a head start in education which in turn makes her smarter. She can get a job that requires a good brain. If Miss Caroline keeps her from reading and make her slow down for the rest of the class she could be working a minimum wage job when she's an adult.
