War can be justified through Right Intention. In the Civil War, the Union (north) wanted to abolish slavery, which is seen as a correct intention. War can be justified through Last Resort. After Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, the US entered WW2, making it justifiable through Last Resort.
The Last Resort Principle is applied when no peaceful agreement could be met upon. For example, in the Revolutionary War, America told Britain their demands, which were not met. Therefore, we went to war. Although war is destructive, other solutions don't always work even when they are available.
