UGH! Even the statement "Proud to be an American" makes me sick. It's a motto that comes at the expense of other's lives and dignity. We have a habit of looking down on others and even calling ourselves the "superior nation" What nerve we have! Stupid platitudes like "Support our troops!" "Our troops fight so we can be free!" Who the hell is trying to come over and steal our freedom? Why is it a matter of supporting our troops, when it's the people above them telling them what to do, for their own interests, not the interests of troops. Sure there's reasons to be proud of being a citizen of this country, but not for the reasons that are mainstream and popular in our arrogant, and blind culture. We need humility, and I think it's coming.
I don't get it. You talk about your generation thinking they were past race as if it's something your generation might actually value, and worked hard to achieve. But when people are bring up the residual and painful effects of racism to light, that are still being dealt with today, you blow them off and cast them as racist whiners. You can't really think your generation got rid or racism completely can you? Why would it be a surprise that we are still dealing with racism in some forms today?
I am probably a good person but I haven't taken the time to fill out my profile, so you'll never know! |
