You said "u" again. Before you go on a rant about me going on a rant about how people can't spell, and don't bother to check their grammar; perhaps you should spell check, and check your grammar. The fact that there is a spell check included in the preview of your post, and you fail to use it makes me realize I have all the information I need. To say possessing a phone was the crux of the argument when everyone knows it's about the use of the phone is hardly worth commenting on. And before you declare what hurts and what helps, I can tell you for certain misspelling and poor grammar won't help anything. How can you take words seriously when they look like first grade gibberish? Good luck on your lost cause. Have fun with that.

it means that everyones vote counts equally as well as everyone gets to vote. I didn't argue this point well, I'll admit to that, and I should have chosen clearer representation. But yours and my votes are insignificant because they carry little influence. Influence is usually purchased by the highest bidder, which is that 4%. To speak more to that, the Electoral College dictates our votes potentially carry zero influence since the Electorates are not required to vote with their populous (in most states). This is hardly the act of a democracy, and barley the act of a representative democracy.

It's a republic which is fine, but if the debate is democracy myth or reality. It's a myth since republic and democracy aren't really interchangeable. Similar, but not the same.

Ask the Chinese with their 18% annual GDP growth if communism is working. The USSR is a poor example. Their failure is a direct result of greedy Oligarchs, and not a direct failure of the system.

All systems are flawed. None are the best, and all are the worst. They always yield their particular oppression and marginalize certain segments. If people were not inherently pricks to one another Anarchy would probably be the way to go, and everyone could just do what they do without being subjugated in the first place.

I understand what your saying. But to condone the distribution of toxins to the masses under the lie of food is unethical. As a smoker I understand that there are no ads on TV selling cigarettes. I know the harm involved in smoking. Why? Because there is truth in cigarette advertising. "Warning causes Cancer and Death." There is no truth in the ad for a Big-Mac. It's doesn't say, may cause heart failure and diabetes on it, but it should because it's the ethical thing to do. In the same vein as a Twinkie, would it be OK for me to sell blow-pops to kids with just a small amount of arsenic in them? It's just a little to add flavor and color? How bout if I didn't put that it contained arsenic on the label? Are you still going to fight for my right to sell it?

I'm not trying to legislate what people should eat, drink, smoke, snort, chew, shoot-up, or whatever. Free will and all. Advertisers are simply unethical.

I would also support the PTB as well. As someone who understands that nearly all vitamins have no useful qualities at all since nearly all of them can't be metabolized in the body. They pass through the gut right into the waste stream. So it's snake oil. You can research this on your own accord and will find it to be true. Again it comes down to ethics.

But I agree that it comes down to choice, but a choice made on erroneous, or false information provided by a company is simply wrong, and to advocate the misleading of consumers based on constitutionality is pretty weak. If companies took it upon themselves to act responsibly then perhaps they wouldn't have to be legislated into compliance. It's unfortunate there has to be an FDA at all, but business rarely acts in the interest of the consumer, but rather only in the interest of their shareholders and CEO's. Junk food peddlers are no different. They have to be on a leash, because the reality is they don't care about their consumers. If they could put crystal-meth into a burger to make you buy more, you can bet they would get right on that.

Of course we accept that things we prefer will be legislated against, and it's something we all accept. Like I said, I smoke, I pay a crap load of tax for them. I'm not complaining because it's my choice to do so. Tyranny would be to take them away completely. The will of the people is to legislate them with proper labeling, advertising, taxation and such. But hey... if you want it, you can still have it. But like I said before. Selling it to my kids with a clown on the side is out of the question.

Once you know what goes into the products you might feel differently. A Twinkie is hardly a problem when you consider that corn is in nearly every processed product on the planet. (including Twinkies). Monsanto Corn to be precise. A genetically modified bastardized version of corn. Known to cause cancer in animals, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and a host of other illnesses. Nobody except sleazy lawyers and no-faced corporate pigs would find this as acceptable to give and advertise to children or anyone for that matter. Freedom aside, toxic is toxic, and the truth is the truth. Selling a lie is unethical.

I think it's important to be age and culturally specific here. Since I am an American, I'll use that culture and my age bracket will be from birth till about age 15.

In America we teach our children to be independent, but I've stated before in other arguments, that uncontrolled independence can develop into isolation. Everyone needs to become part of the heard eventually if they intend to be productive participants in society. This development requires goals and expectations set up by their parents in order to work. It's important to guide a child's future since they are not capable of seeing too far into it. I say they can't see into it, because no child ever thinks they will ever be 30, or 50...etc. Their vision is limited. This handicap makes it essential that parents create and enforce a sense of direction. The curious nature of the handicap combined with the sense of independence instilled at birth creates a tension between parent and child that children, due to their lack of foresight and narcissism, can't understand. No parent is perfect, and their own poor judgments and behaviors sometimes have negative impacts on children's futures, but if there is no guidance then children might as well be feral and raised by wolves.

If a tree falls: Yes it makes a sound because it would move the air around it generating wind and a whooshing noise. But if a tree were in a vacuum and it fell over, it wouldn't make a sound even if you were there to hear it! HA! HA!

That is a clever observation. So suffice to say neither is more important than the other since neither exists without the other. Truly a fascinating deduction.

Now that's an interesting distinction! Can you elaborate on what you might think the tipping point from clockwork to free will (intelligence) is? I'm not sure if there is enough information to dispute clockworks principals of evolution where the last begets the next based solely on environmental variables. If clockwork is simply an evolution to intelligence, then it's still clockwork. I'm starting to confuse myself, now I can't think if I'm supporting or disputing..... hmmm.....my head hurts.

That interesting but I'm going to head the other direction. I know we are going on a tangent here but it's a cool idea that term limits actually breed corruption. I think it actually takes time to cultivate an atmosphere of corruption. I honestly think most people go into office with the intent of "being the change." But truth be told, money and power have a funny way of changing the attitude. I also think that "a good job" can be achieved within the specified term limits. Now I haven't done any research to check the stats on term limits vs. lifers to see where the corruption lies, but I'm going out on a limb to say that lifers are more corrupt simply based on the law of large numbers. To speak further to that I would say that even if limiters were corrupt, the amount of damage they can do is lessened simply because they aren't around long enough to wreck things. Alternatively, lifers can wreak havoc for decades. I'm going to look further into this. I like where it's heading. I think I'll open a separate debate on this. Kudos for bringing up the point.

I have to contend that global warming is still happening. Even though the winter is rough, it's inconsistent. "Worst Winter in 25 Years" speaks exactly to that point. However, the warm periods have been consistently hotter for many decades now. Of course the debate is not so much about if it's happening, but rather if it's harming the planet. It stands to reason that it's a typical planetary cycle of heating and cooling that has been going on for billions of years. The problem is there is just not enough data to support a cooling or warming trend since historical climate patterns can only be obtained from the geological record, which are sketchy since they are often speculative, and open to interpretation rather than hard facts. But the most current hard data does point towards a warming trend, but it's only a blink of an eyes worth of sample in the cosmic scheme of things. Regardless of what anyone really thinks, greenhouse gases and carbon emissions do screw up the air and water. Limiting these kind of pollutants will invariable help humans and the earth alike.

Your right it's the fat and sugar. Really it's the processed sugar and saturated fats. Unsaturated and raw sugar are much less damaging. But of course the fast food giants would never go with that. The are too inconsistent in their chemical makeup to produce a uniform product. These refined fats/sugars are not very soluble and what does digest tends to be a pretty nasty beast. The physical shapes of the sugars cause molecules to bind improperly which generate nasty side effects, such as cholesterol that can't be easily passed out of the body because it's become a weird super glue like concoction.

I still say ban them from TV. I would say the same for Alcohol a well but they advertise with warning for that. So if I can't get them off the air, then they should have warning labels just like any other poison on the market. They should also be banned from marketing to children.

I think you might be onto something here. Let me toss this out there. Since we are born into our nice meaty flesh sacks, then I suppose that tangibility is a default reality. You exist, therefore you are real. Think of it as ground zero reality and all perceptions and thereby realities evolve from that point.
