It seems that very few Christians today can see past politics and recognize the universal message that Christ left us, that we must love each other.

Acceptance is a core component of being a Christian. It is just as wrong in God's eyes to be a racist as it is to be a homophobe.

If you prefer to go by the literal word of the Bible, do you never eat bacon? Do you never eat shrimp or other seafood? Do you support the execution by stones of any woman who has committed adultery? Would you marry your fourteen year old daughter off to an older man? If you answered no to any of these questions, but still justify your homophobia on the grounds that "the Bible says so", you are a hypocrite.

There is no reason whatsoever to ban immigration. The United States was founded on the value of acceptance regardless of your race or national origin. It is jingoistic nonsense to claim that immigrants have done nothing for this country when so many of the people who founded this nation and improved it were born elsewhere. Would you like me to tell you that you can't come to my state because I think your state is bad? I seriously doubt it, unless your the kind of moron that's never left their swamp and has no want to do so.

Science is simply a way of rationalizing the world around us. Morality is acting acceptably and properly. They are completely unconnected. Scientists are generally moral. Look at Jonas Salk. He invented a cure for polio, a disease that ravaged children and left adults disabled worldwide. He decided not to patent his cure, so that the world could cure the disease without his patent interfering.

If that isn't moral, then I don't know what is.

I am a gay conservative. My sexuality has very little to do with my party identification now that marriage equality is now recognized as the universal human right that it is. The GOP isn't going to say I can't kiss my boyfriend in public anymore. It isn't 2004.

I do, however, have a big problem with the far right of the Republican Party. The Trump wing. Trump-style "conservatives" are more likely to espouse hateful views, and I have been on the receiving end of quite a bit more homophobia from Trumpists than I have been from any other conservatives. The silent majority of conservatives are accepting. Look at Dick Cheney. Cheney is the definition of a solid modern-day conservative, and since his daughter came out, he's been fully on board with LGBT equality.

The founder of the conservative movement supported gay rights before it was even a mainstream issue! Barry Goldwater, the patron saint of limited government, interventionist conservatism. was a vocal supporter of gay rights as far back as the late 1980s, when Republicans and Democrats alike either stayed away from the issue or were openly homophobic.

President Reagan was well known in Hollywood circles as being perfectly accepting of gay people. He was far from the evil homophobe many paint him to be. When Rock Hudson, an old friend of the Reagans, was featured in a tabloid questioning his sexuality (Hudson was gay), Ronald simply explained to his children that some men fall in love with men rather than women, and vice-versa, and that it was a perfectly normal thing.

If the two biggest figures of the conservative movement were pro-gay, what is there not to like about conservatism?
