I disagree. Even though I don't know much about it.. it seems that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. I already feel sorry for those farmers.

I don't know much about Monsanto's practices to be honest. One thing I do know is that there are two sides to the story. On the one hand, Monsanto's practices are harmful to environment, wildlife and people. I especially feel sorry for the farmers in those areas where the production takes place. On the other hand, Monsanto responds to the worldwide demand for food and provides people with food. However, as 'green' practices and environmentalism become more in more important for preserving the earth... I agree with this statement.

Since I’m not the most outspoken person in the ‘real world’, digital communication such as social media have given me an useful alternative to real life social interaction. Yet, I don’t think digital communication gives the same personal connection as face-to-face communication. It can help to start a conversation but in order for personal relationships to develop, one needs to meet in person. I strongly believe that ‘memories’ and friendships can only be established if you experience things together (in the real world, not the virtual world!). Social media should not replace regular interaction; it should be used as an extension to face-to-face communication.

Thank you for your reply Moontervelde! I understand why you agree with my debate statement. However, some people argue that social media makes you more social as you are able to speak to people you otherwise couldn't (due to time and distance limitations). And how about social media as a way to add to social skills (think for example of shy people who initially open up more online than in real life). How do you see this?

Thank you for your reaction Myaora! I understand your point of view. Can I ask you to clarify your statement? You note that social media is good for quick and permanent communication (and thus easy). However, you do not state whether this adds to being more or less social? May I ask you in addition how you feel about people texting while having dinner in a restaurant or going out with friends?

I totally agree with the two above-mentioned arguments. Nowadays, I shop both on- and offline. Shopping helps to relax etc. Getting out of the house is part of this. I don't think physical shops will ever totally dissappear or replace traditional retail.

I have nothing to hide so I don't see why the NSA would be a threat. Of course it is good to have some privacy but I think privacy has become impossible in the modern world we live in.

I agree on the fact that an international aspect in studies has an advantage. It is important to know how to deal with different cultures and to be able to speak several languages. This smoothens business relationships as both parties are then able to see things from a different point of perspective.

Social media profiles are often the "better" version of people. On social media it seems that everyone is having fun, getting drunk and partying all the time (as those posts/pictures are fun to share). It is rather boring to read about how someone is studying or going to bed early. As a consequence, people are displayed differently on social media than in real life. Employers can use social media as an indication, but ONLY relying on social media as a source of information is wrong.

I think an attractive image is a very good start. People are more likely to follow a brand that is eye-catching. To give an example, when I see that one of my friends start following a particular brand of company, I often check it out myself. Even though I sometimes don't know a lot about it, if the company looks "fun", I will follow it as well (as I can aways unfollow them at some point). So yes, I do believe an attractive image content is important. However, I don't think ONLY an attractive image is enough. As mentioned before, before following the company, I check it out. When I see that the posts are irrelevant or contradicting, I still decide NOT to follow them.
