I'm not sure why anyone including an "ultraconservative" would prefer the current layout and if anyone does want to take the other side of this debate on behalf of some subset of users, I would enjoy reading them :o)
I do have a couple more tweaks to propose to the one-on-one debate features here and I was wondering if there might be an ability to post an embedded version of any past debate(s) in video or audio format(examples: YouTube or SoundCloud embeds) so they could be ranked and commented on, just like any of debates that occur entirely within this platform, so that debate rankings can also account for performance in past debates in other formats

Almost, except you can only "challenge" someone who's an existing user. I think it would be better to allow you to send a link to a one-on-one debate here.
