It's technology. The U.S. has the high-tech arsenal to take care of any rusted-out junk Russia has left from the Cold War Era. Besides, the Russian government is way too corrupt and inefficient to effectively wage a world war against the U.S.
I think the transportation of the future will be increasingly rail-oriented. As electric rail and maglev technology become cheaper, safer, and more efficient, more communities will encourage their use.
And from a safety standpoint, these advanced trains are safer than personal vehicles or aircraft.
They will be able to play sounds in patterns like music, but it won't be music. Music is for humans. It isn't supposed to be a series of tones, it's a series of emotions expressed in tones.
I highly recommend the short story by Herbert Goldstone, "Virtuoso."
