To state that 1 = .9999999... as a way of saying that 1 does not equal itself is wrong. The concept of .9999999..., by definition, is 1.

1 point

You don't need scientific evidence for math. The concept of the number 2 is based on the definition of that it is the combination of 1 and 1. The form of a number 2 is certainly not composed by two forms of 1 and 1, but the concepts that they represent create a valid equality. It is simply how 1, 2, +, and = are interpreted by the human mind. They're standardized definitions.

That is not an argument against the question. What you interpreted it as is what is intended to be implied by the asking of the question. This debate is not about the minor details of language.

1 point

Seeing how there are no further guidelines as to how to interpret the question, we are to assume that it's mathematical addition of two numbers in base ten.

1 point

I believe that it is implied that we are using base 10, as it is not specified otherwise.

I'm disputing simply on the fact that it's not right for you to be disputing that prior comment on the basis of his spelling...also you can clearly tell that he/she is joking...nobody really spells like that...particularly someone who would be arguing for less school.

Insults aren't arguments. This one serves to counteract yours.

I would agree with that last part, but making school days longer (and likely to go with that classes longer), we're not going to be increasing the amount of time we're spending with our friends and such. Besides, much of that can be done outside of school (assuming that one has the free time to).

1 point

I would disagree. If class time was used wisely in the first place, we wouldn't need extra tutoring and studying time. In a lot of the high school classes I've been in, the time could be used much more wisely as to cover the curriculum. Teachers don't need more time to teach, they just need to use the time they're given more wisely.

So how can you argue for something that you cannot even interact with on a comparable level?

1 point

I would agree with that too, but just because something's a story doesn't mean that it's fiction. One could crave a real story about someone's childhood just as they could crave a story about a fictional characters' childhood.
