Dear Rusticus, yes the problems you highlight are pervasive and do cycle. He is the interesting thing...Six years ago when I bought the site, there was real, honest, quality debating. The more effort i poured into the site, the more trolls and spammers came. The more I tried to clean out the trolls and spammers, the more persistent they became and they drove off many of the sites core debaters. Every cycle, more trolls come and fewer true debaters return...banning people doesn't solve the problem. I don't know what will but I am looking for answers!

Any help would be appreciated.

Best regards,

Andy

No, Bronto you are WRONG! Please understand we use several techniques to prevent a member's IP address from ever being brought into the system. We use several technologies including Cloudflare to prevent spammers and Ddos attacks. The source IP addresses get stripped from the communications into the site in favor of heir redirects. Therefore Bronto is WRONG! Don't believe everything you read on the internet!

Hey Good listener...you drove off all of the good members and their good content and no, the site loses $300/month. I keep it open for all those members who don't want to trash the site.

Does anyone else have any ideas on new features we can add ?

I can add that functionality...do you think it would be useful?

Most are good, some are bad. You have to take the bad with the good. The harder you try to get rid of the bad the harder they try to be bad.

It sucks having bad people on a good site cause they mess it up for the good people!

Assuming you put morality, ethics and our legal system aside, I find this to be the bottom line argument:

Children are not mature enough to make a decision "consent" about whether or not to join in a physical relationship because they are not ready to do so. If the debate was "is a 16 year old mature enough to consent to a physical relationship", I think we could have a healthy debate. The question is not is it wrong or right because I believe it is wrong the the above grounds. The question is what is the correct age for the age of consent. That being said, our society often migrates to the lowest common denominator which in the case of the US is 18 years of age, the same as the voting age... Interestingly enough, children are allowed to drive at the age of 15 with supervision and 16 with additional restrictions. I think the only question is what is the appropriate age of consent.
