Reading is important to teenagers.

Nowadays, most students do not like to read, due to the influence of the internet and computer games.

However, I believe that reading is important as it heightens our creativity and allows us to come up with creative storylines, instead of the cliched storylines we have been using since primary school.

Reading also improves one's language, both in the grammar and vocabulary aspects. It allows us to manipulate language in creative new ways, and also allows us to create our own opinion about something, instead of just blindly accepting what our teachers say. This provides room to ask questions about the topic, and will allow us to further understand it.

There are also many kinds of books, like what Shi Ying said; these books help us to understand and prepare us for the outside world.

Real-life stories in particular are important as they show us the struggles others go through in life: be it a disability or an accident, we can learn from these examples and try to care for those who suffer such struggles in our life.

I agree with Shi Ying that ideas tend to flow out more easily when teenagers read, as the storylines are etched into their minds, and their creativity is heightened. I believe that although some teenagers would prefer playing computer games to reading, they will realise that reading helps them in many ways: in the EQ aspect (as Shao Fen pointed out) and in the academic aspect.

Therefore, I believe that reading IS important to teenagers.

Winning Position: They do more Harm.
