I agree with you, Orrin, dogs are not dumb or smart, it is a tough choice.
dogs are not dumb, but they are not extrordinarily smart. SOME might chase their tales, but that is only some. Have you ever really seen a dog chase its tale for hours. also the yellow lid test was designed for monkeys, so they removed the yellow lid to make it for dog friendly. DOgs are not dumb but they are not smart.
I also want to add that on page 14 it also shows a game the dogs do as a test. They didn't do good on the one designed for chimps but did good on the one designed for them. I think if any test was built for a animal it would do just as good as the dog did.
I do not thinks dogs are completely dumb, but I wouldn't call them smart. On page 14 on the right side it says "The truth is, most dog tricks take advantage of dogs' built-in behavior patterns-things that dogs are born knowing how to do or learn easily." I think if any animal were manipulated and their skills were used for domestic things then they would be considered "smart" too. Also I think people have softened up to dogs because they are pets, but are they really smart? I am not saying they are dumb, but they are smarter than any other average animal.
I am probably a good person but I haven't taken the time to fill out my profile, so you'll never know! |
