Charles Darwin hypothesized that life arose from "some warm little pond" in which inorganic chemicals combined to form the first organism. However, what Darwin didn't know about the biochemistry of life could easily fill his entire house from floor to ceiling. The first major problem is getting the proper organic precursors for living systems. Two major systems (metabolism-and replication) must have spontaneously arisen nearly simultaneously, but both suffer from major problems with chemistry. Other problems include the origin of homochirality and the origin of biological membranes.

Maybe a quote from Gandhi would have been more appropriate =p

Let's consider logic for just a moment.

1. Every time the news comes on, it is fair to say that 85% of it's bad.

2. Most people have no religion or for better terms, faith. Look around you. This website, even this very question. Please look in great detail and read each comment and compare points. It would be safe to say, through logic, most are people of no faith.

3. Review of your comment Ignorant comments? You mean like stating that atheists contribute to the degradation of this country?

4. Define: contribute- to give (money, time, knowledge, assistance, etc.) to a common supply, fund, etc., as for charitable purposes.

degradation- a : decline to a low, destitute, or demoralized state b : moral or intellectual decadence : degeneration. —

hypocrite-a pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc., that one does not really possess.

a pretense of having some desirable or publicly approved attitude.

an act or instance of hypocrisy.

Christian-A true Christian is a person who has put faith and trust in the person and work of Jesus Christ, including His death on the cross as payment for sins and His resurrection on the third day. John 1:12 tells us, “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” The mark of a true Christian is love for others and obedience to God’s Word (1 John 2:4, 10). A true Christian is indeed a child of God, a part of God’s true family, and one who has been given new life in Jesus Christ.

Conclusion:

Very little people are TRUE Christians. To fit the guidelines of a Christian, it would be impossible to contribute to the degradation of America and still be labeled such as this would fall under the category of a hypocrite. This is not an ignorant comment. This statement follows logic and definitions.

O lol what a great come back for a comment that doesn't even pertain to you. That comment of yours definitely deserves 10 points =)

I would like to clear up any type of confusion in regards to my previous statement. Just as there are Christians who claim to be of God that fail to act and live as they should, who give the rest a bad name, there are Atheist in this same category as well. It is 150% your right to believe anything in the world you wish to believe. Santa Clause, Storks, Theory of Evolution, or Christianity. Everybody and their mama is entitled to their own opinion and position, whether they are of ignorance or justifiable, they post them on CD. I have read and heard it all.

Anyway, to jump straight into the point... MOST, you see this in caps correct, of the people of Atheism on this site either 1) judge every denomination as a whole and fit them into one category, 2) are extremely disrespectful towards others regarding their faith, 3) ignorantly pull scriptures from the bible to use against believers, when in fact if they had of read the full scripture or knew what they meant it doesn't even state what they are claiming it does. That was just to name 3.

1) If you fit every person of religion into a "category" it's ignorant. Christianity is far different than Muslim or even Mormonism (which is a debate for another topic). Just b/c certain "believers" of one religion thinks it's of their God's will to blow up the Trade Centers doesn't black list other denominations. People of that religion may have just been crazy and possibly, their destructive actions had nothing to do with their religion but of their own selves. If I were ignorant, however, I could say.. "I'm Atheist now b/c if that is what Godly people do, that's not something I care to follow."

2)Whether you believe in God, can't decide, or just don't, that is your opinion. I personally believe in God. I am not a holy roller but I do believe in respecting others for their opinions. Respect is a moral, which Atheist claim they do without believing in God, which MOST fail to show. Am I perfect at such a task? No! I sure try to be and respect people for what they are. I definitely don't have to use demeaning words or terminology to get my point across. Your whole position then becomes nothing more than a joke. If you think it's cute to joke about things that are highly controversial or people take to heart, maybe your time would best be spent playing Yahoo games.

3)I see this from people all the time! How disrespectful is this? Take text from the Bible and completely misquote, misuse, or leave out text to intentionally mislead people or to get a kudos point on behalf of their argument that was formed by fallacies. If people don't do this on purpose then this is just nothing more than, once again, ignorance.

People that fall into this category are nothing but ignorant. If I dispute or have a say so in anything that I debate about, I have done my research thoroughly on the topic. I form my personal opinions through logic not hear say or what looks good on paper.

This is quite the opposite of what I have seen from MOST people who dispute the Bible. If you disagree, there is content after content on CREATEDEBATE.COM that states otherwise.

"In many societies though out the globe young children are taught religion, and if someone is atheist now chances are they were raised religious. So when it comes to most atheists rather than them being closed minded to religion, its something they grew up with."

This part of your rebuttal makes no sense. You are either saying that 1) most atheist were born into religious backgrounds and choose otherwise later in life or 2) Atheist already know religion due to their religious upbringing.

I'm thinking it's more like 2, so I will go with that one. How people view things growing up is completely different than how one sees the world as a mature adult. Once again, it's ignorant and close minded, for you to assume just b/c you didn't like something when you were younger or you had a bad experience with a subject such as holy rollin religious forcing parents, that you will feel the same way about it now.

Christians who act as if they are better than everyone else are certainly not living by the creeds of Christianity, and may not even be Christians at all. Christianity says that all people are sinners, and none can be righteous on the basis of their own behavior. Jesus said that we should not act like we are better than others just to get noticed. Such a "holier-than-thou" attitude is strongly condemned in the Bible. When Christians tell others that their behavior does not meet God's standards, it is not to try to be superior, but rather to warn them of the peril to their soul in light of their actions.

The idea that God is a made-up concept to soothe our fears makes no sense, since we reject the existence of other made-up figures that might, likewise, make us feel better. A comparison between the existence of God (a non-contingent being) and the existence of Santa Claus or invisible pink unicorns (contingent beings) fails on many levels, not the least of which is that their fundamental natures (non-physical vs. physical) are vastly different. The idea that there is no evidence to support the existence of God is clearly false. Anthony Flew, a lifelong proponent of atheism became a deist on the basis of evidence for design. In subsequent interviews, Flew stated that he "had to go where the evidence leads." Philosophical arguments like invisible pink unicorns are great ways to avoid examining evidence, but such an approach is ultimately dishonest.

Introduction

Harris claims that human standards of morality are what Christians use to establish God’s goodness.13 This is incorrect. Christians do not believe that God is subject to human morality. 11 Harris says these are merely a few cases in point, but given that there haven’t been enough explicitly religious-related killings in the entire world over the last decade to reach the smallest number that can qualify as literal millions, it’s clear that he is simply making up these numbers. The emphasis on “explicit” is his. 12 Harris has subsequently claimed that he only advocates “conversational intolerance.” But it strikes me as supremely counterproductive for an already unpopular minority to try to win friends and influence people by behaving in an even more obnoxious manner than they do already. As to whether this is evidence of Harris’s irrationality or merely his social autism, I shall leave it to the reader to decide. 13 Harris, Letter to a Christian Nation, 55. the end of sam harris 119 This should be obvious from considering the Ten Commandments. Is God prone to have another god before Himself? Does God have a neighbor whose wife He might covet? Who is God’s father and how might He fail to honor him? The Irrational Atheist (Vox Day).

Religion and morality

Christians are far more likely than atheists to be part of groups that work hard to instill values about being good to other people, and having good relationships. The teachings of the Bible emphasize values such as honesty, love, forgiveness, patience, and generosity. Many of these values are not emphasized in social circles dominated by atheists.

Importance of moral values

A survey of 1,600 Canadians asked them what were their beliefs about God and what moral values they considered to be "very important." The results of the survey are shown below:

Moral Values of Theists vs. Atheists1Moral Value Theists Atheists

Honesty 94% 89%

Kindness 88 75

Family life 88 65

Being loved 86 70

Friendship 85 74

Courtesy 81 71

Concern for others 82 63

Forgiveness 84 52

Politeness 77 65

Friendliness 79 66

Patience 72 39

Generosity 67 37

Although the differences between theists and atheists in the importance of values such as honesty, politeness, and friendliness are generally small, moral values emphasized by religious beliefs, such as Christianity, including patience, forgiveness, and generosity exhibit major differences in attitudes (30%+ differences between theists and atheists).

What really concerns me is that only half of atheists think that forgiveness is very important. Either these people have not been married or maybe married multiple times, since a lack of forgiveness in a marriage is a sure recipe for disaster. Couple that moral belief with a perception that neither patience nor generosity are very important, and it seems that the divorce rates are likely to go up significantly in the near future.

According to Professor Bibby, Grandma is the "symbolic saintly person in the clan. So valuing Grandma also means valuing many of the things important to her. In successive generations you have a lingering effect of morality. But further down the road generations get further removed from the sources of those values. That's where it gets tricky."2

Conclusion

Contrary to the claim of the "New Atheism," it seems that atheism leads to a decline in the perception of the importance of many personal moral values, especially those that have a big impact on interpersonal relationships. Since these new atheists are still being influenced by persons of traditional religious moral values, it seems likely that the importance of these values will diminish even further in the beliefs of the next generation of atheists. According to Reginald Bibby, the author of the study, "To the extent that Canadians say good-bye to God, we may find that we pay a significant social price."2 In addition, a recent scientific study shows that a certain atheistic belief (determinism or lack of free will) negatively impacts moral behavior.3

Religion and morals go hand in hand.

It would be the actions of our ways that would cause such destruction. Much like the world going the way it is in todays times. Everything that was done by the Lord was justifiable. Actually, half of your 9 statements are false and I would be happy to contest and back that as well if you like me too. (especially #7,8,9) Which just furthermore let's me know how much people read into Atheist headlines. Oooo the Bible is too much to read so we will just believe these Atheist in their one little ignorant statement which holds no proof except their close minded logic. Maybe if you have of read further into the Biblical explanation you wouldn't look so foolish.

We don't baptize infants. There are "blessing" ceremonies, which is completely different from a baptism. Maybe next time you should specify before you make a sarcastic remark about something you know nothing about. The word religion doesn't sum up Christianity.

You don't have to demand a child to do something for it to be brainwashing.

Noun 1. brainwashing - forcible indoctrination into a new set of attitudes and beliefs

indoctrination - teaching someone to accept doctrines uncritically

Indoctrination that forces people to abandon their beliefs in favor of another set of beliefs. Usually associated with military and political interrogation and religious conversion, brainwashing attempts, through prolonged stress, to break down an individual's physical and mental defenses. Brainwashing techniques range from vocal persuasion and threats to punishment, physical deprivation, mind-altering drugs, and severe physical torture.

I'm sure this definition applies to religion.

1) Teaching your children Christianity is not brainwashing considering they have no beliefs to begin with, and 2) them going to church is hardly chopping their fingers off and have them forced into a belief. Therefore, this does not fit the definition of Christianity (religion) or TRUE Christians.

*"A true believer does what is right and demonstrates love toward others.4 Even non-believers can readily see who the true Christians are. Ultimately, the behavior of those who claim to be Christians but practice evil should not be a consideration in determining if the claims of Christ are true or not.

Yes, "Christians" have committed atrocities against other religious and non-religious people. However, atheists have committed far more atrocities than all religious groups combined. Even so, the key factor in these atrocities has been totalitarian power, rather than religion, which has resulted in these hundreds of millions of murders."

Someone please tell me why we should care? History is just that when it pertains to most situations and, in opinion, this one. I'm sure there are other historical events such as this that we no longer keep track of as well. Please someone dispute me and prove me wrong. How, in any way, shape, or form, does this marriage affect us, the American People, other than just for historical purposes?

I actually didn't know there were so many people like this until I got on this site. Every argument pertaining to religion goes against it. Then again, people like this are everywhere. It's just one of those things you don't think about. Look how bad America has become. It really doesn't surprise me, it's some of the ignorant comments however that do. You can be Atheist but why be ignorant? How can you be accepting of anything else if you aren't open minded?

1 point

Christian religion is based on values, morals, and ethics. It is not all about throwing a Bible in your face, not letting you cut your hair and ankle skirts. I should wait until they hit high school to teach them how to respect others, self control, and to be self reliant, as well as them understanding the consequences of their actions..etc? We are raising adults not children. They are the most influential before adolescents, which is the time you should be teaching them what I listed above. Baptizing is not something that's forced in to doing. People do it b/c they want to. It's funny how people who speak negatively of the Bible and/or religion know nothing TRUE about it nor realize their faults are far worse. People do a lot worse in front of their kids that they pick up on. Is this also brainwashing? This would mean anything you teach your kid could fall under this category. Even if they are brought up in church, when they become of age, they don't have to go. If everybody in the world was "brainwashed" into Christianity, we wouldn't be in such an awful world to being with.
