I do not believe that people should be allowed to as keeping an exotic animal could become a danger to not only the person handling the animal, but to everyone in the community. Multiple cases of exotic animals lashing out have been documented across America. (https://www.naturalnews.com/037183petmonkeyFrostedFlakesanimalattack.html)

This subject is sort of difficult to pick a side for. However, in the end it comes down to how researchers treat animals. Lab animals are treated terribly, and are subject to being physically abused (chemical exposure, infliction of wounds/burns, etc...). Furthermore, based off of this document (http://www.hsi.org/campaigns/endanimaltesting/qa/about.html??referrer=https:// www.google.com/) animal testing isn't actually that efficient. It explains that using computer simulation provides a much more reliable test as we're able to use human genetics, as compared to animal genetics. While it is helpful to test potential drugs and medicine on an animal, there will always be the first human to be tested on.
