Yes, I believe Darwin's concepts did contribute to Eugenics. Darwin in his theory called "social Darwinism" said that only the strong and fit can survive in an environment. In the 1900's when Adolf Hitler was the leader of Germany and head of Nazi party, he tried making a pure Aryan race. His plan consisted of killing the Jews, crippled, mentally ill, Gypsies, and other person who was not White with blond hair and blue eyes. Josef Mengele and Otmar von Verschuer ran tests on twins in the concentration camps. Even if the crippled or mentally ill were Germans, they would still be killed. His plan wanted to take out the "pests" in Germany. Adolf or at least his advisers must of heard about social Darwinism. My opinion is that they must of thought that if they can decrease the number of "pests", they can increase the strength of the Aryan race.
Europeans heard about Darwin's theory which is about only the strong species survive. This theory is called Social Darwinism, which is going to be a buzz in Europe. Europe at this time was conquering land from around the world. Europe was now focused on Africa because of its natural resources it had. With Europeans conquering parts of Asia, they were curious for more land. Now at this time Europe having a lot of pride and pride for conquering land. Some Europeans started to believe Social Darwinism because it had made sense. They were strong and superior, while the Africans were the weak which not live long. With the momentum they had, Social Darwinism just added to their confidence boost to conquer Africa.
Darwinism is a theory of organic evolution claiming that new species arise and are perpetuated by natural selection. Social Darwinism is Darwin's theory about how only the strongest and most fit survive in an environment. The similarities are that they both have to with species. I think Social Darwinism is a bad/wrong concept. For example, when people heard about social Darwinism they believed it but a cockroach is does last in an environment. People thought that a cockroach was weak and couldn't survive when in fact a cock roach is not affected by radiation when humans are. So the point is that if there was a radiation leak, humans would not survive, but a specie much smaller would survive.
