In what way is atheism irrational, I'd love to know. It's just because the way that I and so many other people view the world for what it is would be considered quite rational, it's when people believe in the supernatural (for which there is no proof) is what I would define as irrational
"Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence" I know theists have heard the famous quote, but we say this for a reason, because we want evidence for your claim. If you use arguments like the fine tuned argument, remember this could be used for any theistic and deistic God, so what evidence that you have that is so compelling that it makes your God stand out from the crowd, once you meet my criteria, then we'll talk
There are times I think to myself, what would it be like not be human, the lack of an ability to shake up the world, the ability to travel from continent to continent and the ability to think critically. All these are trates of myself which I am grateful for having, and are ones I hate to see insulted by Christians, let alone theists. If you believe that the bible is the word of God, you also condone slavery genocide, the stoning of homosexuals and adulterers and the neglect of woman's rights. You also are told to believe that the earth is 6,000 years old and that all the races in the world descended from a white couple. If we start to teach this as truth then we lay the foundation for a very dangerous society for our children, and our grandchildren. Scientific and criticalil thinking will reduce dramatically and wars against all the religions will increase dramatically. With a skeptical and critical thinking offspring, we set our children up to build on what we, our parents and out grandparents have achieved. I understand there are good Christians, I understand there are bad atheists, but it is only through a critical minded society that we will succeed, atheism has just co-evolved along side it
if you go outside and ask anyone their ideas of joy and happiness , they would talk of the joys they have in this present life (marriage, celebration etc.) but as the saying goes all good things must come to an end. This, you could say, is a trait of bliss. Now if we think of heaven, it happens in the realm of eternity. If we sit down and think about eternity, it is quite scaremongering, an idea of no end, no matter the amount of joy, is a frightening (and thankfully not true) place. Heaven is just hell in the clouds. Secondly the idea that a god could have the right to punish people for death, despite his mass genocide of the whole planet, bar a few people. If we're judging the morals on the bible (and I challenge theists to think of another), then this perfect palace of bliss is full of homophobes, slave masters and the entire westboro baptist church, all of which are not worthy of my company. Thirdly, the nerve of a god to separate family's for all eternity would be, in every sense, an eternity of hell for the family's.
I am probably a good person but I haven't taken the time to fill out my profile, so you'll never know! |
