Traffic lights and stop signs, though mildly irritating to drivers at times, are necessary to maintain order on the roads and should not be eliminated. The number of current auto accidents is already incredibly high with these precautions. If these precautions are done away with, then it is very likely that drivers, even those with an intention to drive well and safely, will cause or be involved in even more incidents. This could be caused by simply not knowing the road well. If a driver does not know the road, then they may not be aware where an intersection before they are on top of it. Not having a traffic light or stop sign may have prevented the driver from being able to slow down and avoid rushing into an intersection.
In addition, one could also look at the economic side of the issue. Disposing of traffic lights and stop signs may decrease costs of maintenance for the government, and in turn the taxpayers. These savings would ultimately become moot. The wrongful death financial repercussions of the auto accidents caused by the lack of traffic lights and stop signs would now become the responsibility of the government, and taxpayers would end up footing the bill. Traffic lights and stop signs are crucial in maintaining both safe, functioning, modern environment.
