You might have a point there. Not sure what to tell you.. I say for now just give them the benefits, but it's probably more complicated than that.
But I still think domestic partnership should be spread countrywide.

About the newbies, I'd say that they are here to stay. They came from a now defunct site called 'Essembly' and are setting up some type of 'refugee' society.
Jake, you notice the sudden increase in debates? All of the debates seem to be similar. Several people seem to be banding together. And what's worse, they all started in the last few days.

Have you ever had such a long debate about something of seemingly little importance? i.e. the Stallone vs. Schwarzenegger debate?
In case it was you who downvoted me: that thing about the Mormons that I said on the masturbation debate was meant to be a compliment, not an insult.
Well, as anyone knows, capitalist societies are subject to periodic growths and recessions (about every 20 years). The only people who continue to remain well off during these periodic recessions are those who are above the upper middle class. Classes below are subject to lay offs, unemployment and general hardship while the economy struggles to pick itself back up. And, as capitalist classes are generally organized by a pyramid shape, with fewer and fewer people the higher one goes. Therefore, more people are hurt in the recessions in the lower classes. If you're not convinced of the hurt capitalism (and this is our version of capitalism) you should look at the much purer capitalism of America's 19th century. Then I'm doubtful that you would remain unconvinced that capitalism hurts too many for the benefit of only a few.
