I think that people do themselves and the nation a great disservice by putting party ahead of principle. If we would vote based on the person rather then the party we would be far better represented then we are under the R/D split that dominates our political system. Our elected officials would also be advised to vote their conscious rather then the party line. Party politics is used to swindle us out of our votes and ultimately our money and freedom.

Generally speaking a revolution could always be argued as justified if, as was the case at the founding of this nation, the People are seen as the sovereign power within a given nation. However, I believe revolution is justified after "a long train of abuses" has occurred. If a given government is operating outside of the powers that the People have delegated to it and is disregarding the original agreement between the governed and the government then the time has probably come for revolution. Also, regardless of the original agreement between the People and their government, if the Natural Rights of the People at large are being violated routinely then revolution is justified.

I think there is little doubt that the US empire will invade, destroy and occupy any nation it sees fit. I am unaware of any war the has paid for itself or has come even close to paying for itself. The 'war on terror' is being financed with debt and inflation and will continue to be financed in this way. The only money to made in modern war is by war contractors not the nations involved.

I think this debate should be about the "peak oil crisis" itself, like does it exist. One only needs to look at all the new oil reserves that are found on a regular basis to question just how limited the planets oil reserves are.

The electoral college was originally set up in order to provide for a unique voting block for each elected portion of the federal government (the house voted by direct election, the senate by state legislatures [since superseded by amendment]) and to ensure presidents were selected by properly informed individuals. The biggest problem with the system today is how the state legislatures have set up the selection process for the actually electors. In every state the electors are nominated by the parties at their conventions and on election day the people choose the slate of electors pledged to a candidate (so if you voted for Bush in 2000, you actually voted for the republican slate of electors who were already pledged to Bush). I believe we would be better off to have the electors campaign and be elected individual based on their beliefs and then they vote as they see fit rather then as a slate for a certain candidate. This would allow the people to select someone who's views were similar to their own and this person could select the best candidate. This may seem anti-democratic but remember we live in a republic, democracies are dangerous things.

The point is it is morally wrong to take people's money for any reason weather to execute war (obviously more wrong) or to send it to others. Americans already give more in private contributions then the government does in "public" money so if they paid no taxes the giving would increase (I know mine would). Also, by using the government to convey the money you pay a sizable portion to the bureaucracy which is obviously avoid by private contribution.

First the government has no constitutional authority to send aid to other countries. Second when the government sends aid it is often given to the governments of the countries in question and is spent poorly or inappropriately. Third it is morally wrong to take money from one person (through taxation in this case) and give it to someone else, it is always better to allow individuals to spend their money as they choose. If someone wants to send their money to Africa to help out then they should be allowed to do so free and unfettered.
