No matter how advanced our medical science is, it is impossible to guarantee the success of high-risk surgeries and there is always a chance of failure. Despite spending trillions of dollars and years researching diseases, we have yet to find a definite cure for cancer and AIDS. To make things worse, viruses and bacteria constantly undergo evolution and there will eventually be a day where there will be antimicrobial resistant super-bug which will bring an end to the human race. As long as we remain realistic about the capabilities and limitations to the medical science of today, we cannot expect too much of medical science.
From a pragmatic point of view, it is impossible for media providers to sustain viewership of the masses without entertainment. There always be a drawing line where profit limits the extent of educational television shows. This is especially true for local television channels with low viewership, where they have to make their shows entertaining in order to just stay in the industry. However, if the company can be funded by the state such as BBC, it is able to focus on developing many educational shows of high quality.
