Social Darwinism where the fittest organisms like animals/humans/plants survive while the weak die. (Survival of the fittest). Darwinism deals with evolution. Darwinism is what Darwin thought. He thought that organisms would evolve over a period of time and the organism with the best traits will live on. They are similar because they both have genes and traits are inherited
I agree that Darwin's concepts contributed to eugenics. Both ideas have to do with the environment. Darwin and eugenics both have the idea that the environment can change organisms. Eugenics is how the enviornment can change an organism because the organism will adapt. Darwin's concept says that the environment will change the organism as long as the traits being passed down.
Darwin had a theory that things change over time. Darwin also had a theory of natural selection and survival of the best fit. Darwin's Natural Selection theory was that organisms inherit traits that help them to survive.
At this time, there were slaves in America & Europe. Darwin thought that these colored slaves were not human beings and thought low of them. Darwin saw how these slaves were being treated and was against slavery. He thought they looked different and were more like apes.
Jean Baptiste Lamarck, Charles Lyell, James Hutton and Thomas Malthus all influenced Darwin's theories. Lamarck thought that organisms changed over time and there were traits that needed to be passed down from generation to generation in order for that change. Lamarck was wrong. Charles Lyell thought that scientists had to explain the events in the past because it is what shaped the earth and is still influenced today.James Hutton thought geological forces shaped the earth. Thomas Malthus said that if the population was to grow there would not be enough space to live and no food to eat.
