Technological progress is good. The reason for that is that it allows the growth of population: Medical technology and the Industrial Revolution started the major population growth that is characteristic of today’s society. Population growth is good because it allows people who are more specifically better at things to combine their ideas, increases the workforce, strengthens the economy, etc. and is what keeps a society alive for a long time. If people who are against technology bring up overpopulation, population growth in developed countries is slowly going to a stop due to more women in the workforce and in education, which wouldn’t happen without technology like the automobile that allows for quicker diffusion of concepts. Another reason why technological progress is good is that it protects people from diseases. Without the vaccine, a technology from 1796, very dangerous diseases like smallpox and polio would have still become extant today. Without modern purification of drinking water, epidemics such as cholera would have been more prevalent today. Even though vaccination for a long time will cause evolution of “superbugs” as a group of species, scientists are already working on a vaccine for them.
