As humans we associate each other a part of another group, say a label, whether racial identity, political groups, sports groups, etc. But for me, the ultimately the truth lies in the individual; and all individuals are selfishly oriented. We all want what we selfishly want; and thats not necessarily bad, if used in intelligent context. Its totally normal and natural, it's in our instincts, just like you need to be selfish to survive. Even when you are "selfless", or of service to others, say Mother Theresa helping all these people, we do it because it makes us feel better. She, as well as all of us, even commit so called selfless acts from selfishly oriented thoughts; to make us feel better. Along with when we needed to be intelligently selfish to survive (to succeed) in the early years of human history, we need to be intelligently selfish in the modern day, to be successful. The word "selfishness" has gained a bad rap, a lot of negative overtones come to mind when you say that word. But without the selfishness that originates in every human being, we wouldn't likely be alive right now.

Think about it, the time they devote to teaching children things that aren't fact they're taking away from the time they could be teaching them relevant things such as math or science (not evolution, but chemistry, biology, and human A+P).

First, evolution IS science. And if just because its not 100% fact that shouldn't mean we don't teach students about theories; namely of gravity, cells, atomic structures, relativity, and even the GERM THEORY OF DISEASE that in fact we do teach. Scientific theory is credible and has to meet a lot of requirements... If we weren't teaching kids about theories (as those listed above) in the classroom, we would have a bunch of scientifically illiterate people, and rightly so religious people, (as religion answers complex questions with non-sequitor and simplistic answers), that have clouded perceptions of what reality is, how it works, and how it came about; ultimately favoring the creationist belief.

School should be a place to encourage logical thinking and reasoning; neither of which Creationism abides by. We have churches to tell people short and sweet answers that satisfy their questions so that they won't often question them (prime example creationism), and we have schools to enforce critical thinking skills, as well as teach theories with overwhelming scientific evidence (prime example evolution). Keep the fairy tales for the churches; only the far more conclusive and logical theories should pass the test to be taught in school.

I agree that all religions are cults, and I think the Mormon religion gets more of that label due to their more zealous attitude about the "True Way" and also with the fervent spreading of that word; as compared to most other religions. They have a higher count of unique rites/ceremonies/practices they have such as needing to be married in the temple to make it to one of the positive 3 levels of the afterlife, or the whole missionary ordeal, or the bearing testament. So I think Mormonism is labelled more as a cultish society because of things like those.

I think if anything religion encourages people to learn less about more logical and truth bearing evidence, as well as distorting their perception of reality and science; that is very bad indeed. It subordinates them by giving information/morals/etc. on a "silver platter" so that all the questions are answered with quick, easily understood answers; it satisfies their curiosity and mentally conditions them to not want to think and learn more, especially when those thoughts oppose those that their religion relentlessly supports and supplies.
