That used to be true, but not anymore. All accounts are disabled. It's basically a zombie site.
I agree, although the key issue is not corporate greed. SodaHead started with a big pile of venture capital and burned through it. Additional investors arrived with more cash and they burned through that too. When there was no more cash to be had (because their business model never turned a profit), the company was sold, in distress, to Prodege. SodaHead's assets were essentially the website and the polling engine behind it (Pollware).
Pollware might be a viable commercial product, but the SodaHead site could never pull its own weight. Problem is, by killing the site, they destroyed the best possible platform for demonstrating the scalability of their software. Further, the zero-notice shutdown has destroyed the goodwill that was built up with users over many years. Gotta wonder who buys software from a company that might not be around to support it.
For a long time, SodaHead has been accused of poor management practices. The shutdown removes all doubt. The whole thing will go kaput soon enough. I give it a month or two.
